If you have an interest in history and/or nature, the Lamani ecotour is a must! Our tour guide was Nate, and he did an amazing job with sharing his anecdotes and knowledge on the boat ride and hike, making the trip really fun. The wildlife is beautiful, the people are welcoming and what is excavated of the ancient city is breathtaking.

My friend and I booked the excursion through our hotel. Included in our trip was a ride to and from the boat, the boat ride to and from Lamanai, the guided tour, and lunch. It was an hour drive from Belize City to the boat ride and then about another hour to the ancient city. Hiking and cite seeing was another hour and afterwards, we ate food that was locally grown and prepared. The time and cost of this trip is worth experiencing the history and the natural...

Disappointing. We requested a sunrise start riverboat and Lamanai birding tour with a birding guide. We were on time but the guide was late and the tour started 45min late, missing the prime birding time. The guide tried to be helpful, but was familiar only with the common birds and did not know bird calls. By chance we saw a few good birds at the Lamanai site, but because the guide was unfamiliar with calls and most of the species, we were extremely dissatisfied. The tour cost $300US which we paid in full and also tipped our guide because, although late, he was trying his best. Fault primarily lies with the owner of this company who made the arrangements and chose our guide. Lesson learned. If we get a bird guide in the future, we will request to see their...

Did a private tour. Only $15/person more than the cruise ship cattle boat. No brainer. Allowed for a later start time so we could sleep in (we stayed at Lamanai Landings Hotel right next door and were picked up right there), allowed for a much more leisurely boat ride allowing us to see lots more wildlife, and allowed time to see all the ruins (group tours commonly spend less time at Lamanai and (unbeknownst to them), only see a subset of the ruins). Our guide Andy was a superstar and was able to spot and point out a ton of wildlife. He shared a lot of history about the Lamanai ruins and the Maya people and was fantastic. I highly recommend the trip, going private, and going with Lamanai...

Fantastic guide service! Nate guided, while Doc gave fun tidbits of info. Nate knows everything about the plants, animals, water, and history. We saw manatees, a crocodile, birds, bats, and a Mennonite village- and that was just on the way to the ruins. Nate combined his Mayan heritage with expert knowledge to deliver a professional tour. The sites are beautiful- no crowds! You can even climb up to the top of the largest pyramid. We trolled for tarpon on the way back to the dock, and went 1/2 on 40-50lb fish. I have fished for 20 years, and never knew that tarpon could exist in fresh water 30 miles upriver from the ocean. I highly recommend this trip for a fisherman/outdoorsman/birder/historian.

We had a private tour with Havier. We started in the very early morning and Havier picked us up with the boat directly at our hotel. He showed us a lot of birds, crocodiles, plants and had a great knowledge about all the wildlife and nature. Then we drove along the river to Lamanai ruins. Havier perfectly showed us around avoiding other groups and let us see all tempels without having any other people around us. He knows so much interesting things about Maya culture and the Lamanai history. Afterwards we had a very tasty lunch under a palapa before we drove back home with the boat. Thank you very much Havier for a perfect day.
