One of the most stunning places I have ever been in my life. If you visit Botswana you need to plan one night at that place. We did not book anything in advance but just made sure we are there at around lunchtime to get one of the camping spots. You are free to choose and most spots are not too close together. The pricing is way too high for what it is, but I guess you also pay for the experience, so it was still worth it. There were also not too many people in the evening which made the experience so special. It may seem far off the usual route and take some more time than just driving down the highway, but the way to Kubu island is an adventure for itself and absolutely stunning. Read moreThe camping at the island has been closed. They have moved to a new site about 2,5km from the island old campsite. Although the new facilities have flush toilets and hot showers, they had no water when we visited on 15 Jun 24. The island is now controlled by the Heritage Organization, hence no more camping. We booked through Footprints Botswana and was not informed about this change of campsite beforehand. The pans are amazing (5 stars). The road getting there from Nata side is quite bad, but that keeps the general public away. You can picnic at the island and also stay after sunset. New camp is at S20° 53.054'...
