My wife and I enjoyed a magical 4 night stay at Kadizora, bookending what was a magical first experience of safari in Botswana. We chose to take our first trip to Botswana during their low season but we loved how dry the floodplains were and how open the landscape had become, as it afforded us numerous additional routes within the concession to explore which would not have been feasible during high flood due to the water levels.
A true benefit to low season at Kadizora and to the Delta in general are the low occupancy levels evidenced by the fact we were the only guests in camp throughout our 4 night stay, which was as welcomed as it was unexpected and an anomaly which only served to enhance our holistic experience of Kadizora further.
In essence, from our arrival to our departure we had the whole camp to ourselves, including private game viewing activities throughout with timings/routes tailored to our own preferences. Similarly our daily itinerary was made flexible by Matthew and Aidan, our personable and highly capable camp managers, who gave us the autonomy and freedom to truly feel at home in camp from the moment we arrived by empowering us to feel comfortable in tailoring each day to suit our own preferences and sensibilities.
One notable mention must go to the food in camp which was consistently the best we enjoyed throughout this trip despite strong competition from the other camps we visited prior.
Kadizora is truly remote and intimate camp located in the Northern Delta with the Selinda Spillway dissecting its vast and exclusive NG concession, sharing as it does with only two other camps. This exclusivity was notable in providing a true authentic Botswana safari experience as we barely encountered another game vehicle (or human) throughout our stay. Similarly, the sightings we were fortunate to witness, predominantly were ones we had entirely to ourselves with no time limits to concern ourselves with.
For me this was a noticeable and welcome discrepancy from previous safari experiences we have had in other countries and destinations. As avid wildlife enthusiasts, the opportunity to spend over an hour with a pack of Wild Dogs while they readied themselves to hunt or spend half a day with a female lioness and follow her journey from sunrise to sunset culminating in watching her make not one but two successful kills of a late afternoon, is one of countless examples what I feel separates Kadizora as being somewhat of hidden gem on the much heralded Delta safari circuit.
Of course none of these sightings and none of these experiences would be possible without the skill, intellect and expertise of our indomitable guide, OC, who was a lovely, unassuming, personable man but equally highly capable, someone who took his job extremely seriously and was at the top of his game throughout. His diligence and professionalism served to maximise our âout of campâ safari experience in a similar vein to how Matthew, Aidan, Kenny and every other member of the Kadizora team looked after us âin campâ in a such a meaningful fashion that it left us with only cherished and fond memories of what was a private and memorable 4 nights we enjoyed at Kadizora Camp.
I cannot recommend Kadizora camp highly enough in all aspects. We would love to re-visit as return guests going forward and have already begun discussing how we might plan to do so in the near future and for...
Read moreWe flew to Kadizora Camp from Maun and weâre greeted by Fil, our guide for our stay. Driving into the camp in a Land Cruiser we saw baboons, warthogs, antelopes and elephants. Upon our arrival we were welcomed with a song sung by some of the women staffers. The common areas of the camp are beautiful- overlooking a large area where we could see buffalo, elephants, zebras and warthogs nearby. We had high tea then went on a late afternoon game drive. Had gin and tonics on the savanna in the midst of wildebeests and zebras! Returned for a delicious dinner and had a nice sleep in our tent listening to the sounds of the wild. Up very early the next morning for a long game drive where we saw lions, ostriches, Cape buffalo, warthogs, baboons, zebras, elephants with tiny babies, hippos, Judy, antelope, and babies, beautiful birds and a leopard who had a fresh kill in a tree! Fil was very knowledgeable and really knew wher to find the animals and get us up close and personal! Saw So many beautiful sites! Another high tea experience then out for a night game drive where we encountered our leopard again , along with various smaller nocturnal African animals including a hippo and a hyena right by the camp entrance! Another great dinner followed! The next day we toured the village of Gunotsoga where we met some of the locals. Pat, our guide, was very nice and informative. Toured the school, medical clinic, participated in a rain dance, and learned about daily life in the village. Another game drive later in the day showed us giraffes and all of the animals mentioned prior! The last day treated us to a Ma Ko Ro canoe trip on the delta where we saw various water birds and Had a very close encounter with a grumpy, injured hippo. So close that we could see his wounds from a previous fight. He was not a happy camper-it was scary but our guide, Pat, had everything under control! The staff at Kadizora camp was wonderful. Very friendly and accommodating, kind and gentle. The food was plentiful and delicious. The gin and tonics were refreshing. The pool was cool and felt great after a hot game drive. We did experience a rare thunder and lightning storm one night with drizzly rain a few times, but it was all part of the experience! We had the best time and would go back in a heartbeat! Thank you so much to Christian, Arlene, MJ, Fil, Pat and all of the girls and guys who cooked, served and helped us out! It...
Read moreWas expecting a lot better service and attention to the customer's needs for the amount of money it costs. Definitely not worth it in my opinion! It is a great location and the property is actually very nice for being way out in the middle of the bush. The service from the staff is what really made me rate this property as poor. They were somewhat rude at times, very poor in communicating itineraries, and not accommodating at all. For example, you can only leave your room at night being escorted by a staff member, which is understandable being out in the wild, but our guide made a fuss that everyone wanted to leave their rooms at different times for dinner and he said, "No, I'm not going to come out multiple times, you all need to agree on a time". Even though it's about a 30 second walk to the rooms the guide was just being super lazy. Breakfast was always the same, yogurt, cereal, and instant coffee. No other options. Dinner was at 7:30 and because the guide didn't want to come get people multiple times based on when they wanted to come out, we all had to come out at 7PM to wait for a dinner that was supposed to be ready for 7:30PM but every night was at least an hour late so we would sit around waiting for dinner for at least an hour and a half to 2 hours. When dinner was finally ready half of the items were always cold because they would bring things out buffet style but each items was about 10-15 minutes apart so by the time the last item came out the first few were already cold. Quality of the food was not acceptable too for the price. The place has great potential but really just needs a good manager to get the service staff up to par. My advice, get a really experienced manger and get a "real' chef". Or charge...
