We really wanted to see the animals of the Bonito region in the wild, but many of them are hard to see, either because of their elusiveness, camouflage, or because they are nocturnal. Anyone can see an animal in the zoo, so we didn't think we would enjoy this. We were happily mistaken. Bio Park rescues animals that cannot be returned to the wild. We were privileged to have as our guide, Leonidas, the park veterinarian. He explained to us about each animal, their predators and prey, their diet, and the reason they cannot be released into the wild. Our guide went to great lengths to translate from Portuguese to English through Google translate. Which allowed us to learn about the park and it's animals in great detail.
