This is a great way to experience a cable ferry and the ferry captain/driver was humourous and super happy to show how the ferry operates. You're allowed to get out of the car, quickly take a peek over the guardrails to see yourself atop the metal contraption being winched across a fast moving river, them quickly hop back in so you can drive off and let the oncoming cars board. Best part! It is free to use this service and the mini adventure is totally worth the driving time / detour.

We came at this ferry at around 2150hrs and it was pitch dark, Terry the Guardian Ferry was amazing. He kinda guide us and told us some amazing experiences he had. Just like the other day, he said about 1k has crossed the river that is about 3ft deep only from 8 am till 3 pm. He also does the turning on and off of the pulley system of both ends. Thanks Terry for showing us and entertaining us on that short ride, you’re doing great and we appreciate what you do.

The Bleriot Ferry joins two sections of the North Dinosaur Trail (Highway 838) as it crosses the Red Deer River from Kneehill County on the west, to Starland County on the east. It was built by Andre Bleriot] commissioned in 1913. It runs just 105 m/344 ft and is free of charge. Open April to November. I've always wondered why they don't build a simple short bridge. Maybe it's kept up as a fun tourist attraction. There is camping nearby.

The ferry: an interesting piece of history, I recommend anyone in the area do the Dino loop where this is the half way point. Take 5 min to get across and it's free! The campground: has about 24 sites no firewood but has dug in firepits. The top spots are a little too close together with too few greens separating one spot from another but the bottom ones have some nice shade and you don't see your neighbors as much. Careful the big site, #22, floods in the rain. There are a few approaches to the river but they are most definitely muddy. No running water, exept for one tap of drinking water. Standard outhouses, with were clean and maintained. Super quite at night as the ferry isn't running and no one is driving by. Makes for a great spot for your...

Free ferry and convenient for regular sized vehicles. Friendly staff. But for vehicles over 20' long: take caution! The roads leading to it are very steep, there is a switchback, and you might bottom out on the ferry ramp. There is no place to turn around so you have to keep going. The staff will do their best to help people towing trailers and driving motor homes but it could be very rough on your vehicle. Still 5 stars because I rated it for average...
