I came here with my girlfriend to watch the Aurora Borealis. Elk Island is an ideal place to see the Aurora because of the dark skies and being far away from the light pollution of the neighboring cities. Furthermore on the beach there are lots of nice places to make a fire to keep warm while watching the night skies. However I removed a star because people in the parking lot driving their cars in don't respect the concept of light pollution and insist on parking their cars pointing towards the beach with their high beams on which not only blinds everyone on the beach, but also ruins their experience as they can no longer see the night sky clearly. I would suggest that barricades be installed in the parking area which stop light from blinding everyone on the beach. I would come here during the day for the beach experience, but I'll certainly be considering other areas to watch the aurora with more respectful people parking their cars.

The first eight pictures are recently taken at the beach at Lake Astotin, after a rain and just before it starts to warm up. New colourful signs that express what it means to be a Canadian. The last four pictures were taken at the same beach but in November of 2020, after the pandemic hit. A bit of solace as we hankered down. November of that year was very warm and the number of people visiting the park was off the charts. Especially at sunset. We all gave a collective sign.

Elk Island’s beach is a gem peaceful, clean, and surrounded by beautiful nature. The sandy shoreline is perfect for relaxing, and the calm lake makes it great for swimming or just dipping your toes. Wildlife sightings, like bison nearby, add a unique touch you won’t find at most beaches. It’s the perfect spot for a quiet getaway, whether you're picnicking, paddling, or simply soaking up the sun.

I went on the August Long weekend and the beach (if you can call it that) was hard packed sand and covered in goose poo and there lake also had blue green algae so it was unsafe to swim. However, no one at the gate mentioned the algae before I paid - I found out through a sign posted on the beach. I looked for another area to have a picnic but the grass was also covered in goose poo so I left. This was a complete let down given how high the reviews are for this...
