I've learned of an incident that happened there this summer involving a veteran camp counselor, and how unfairly and unjust she was treated. She was left in charge of bus duty with well over 40 kids in her care.. which completely is a very large student to supervisor ratio..( legally wrong within any other organization.) On this particular day a few kids got off at one stop and a couple decided not to wait for their parents and left to walk home. The counselor in question, trying to keep everyone organized, a feet of it's own with that many kids, noticed a couple kids missing. She called into the Leighton Centre crying extremely upset and concerned that she lost 2 kids. Without investigating or reviewing what happened, they terminated her on the phone instantly for negligence. The staff at the Leighton Centre have been complaining to the board for years at how the student / staff ratio on the bus was insane and none of them wanted to be on bus duty fo thst reason. They were simply told they are not for profit and can't afford more staff, and that the counselors just have to deal with it. This counselor had been with the Centre for 5 years , and let go just like that. Maybe , if the Leighton Centre would take ownership of the situation they put their young staff in and look at correcting their wrong, I wouldn't have felt the need to post this review. Also, maybe the parents of the kids who wondered off, need to be aware of the situation and total fear their kids unfairly put this younger counselor in, who also lost her job over as a consequence for their behavior. I know no other organization who can legally transport kids with that ratio of child/ supervisor , period!! Shame on the Leighton Centre for this shameful situation the are blatantly ignoring.
( Thank you for your response.) It's seems there are holes in all the stories in regards to the events that day! As a concerned parent, who's child was on that bus, I wholeheartedly believe that in your groups on site, the 20:1 ratio is followed, but I strongly believe that's not the case on the bus that transporrts kids. Do you adhere to that ratio not only in your groups on site, but as well on the bus? I'll leave it at that. Again, thanks for...
