Amazing Medicine lake lookout point. Lake itself is magnificient with exceptional view of mountains. This look out point wont take long unless you go for a hike. You can even walk to the lake and walkway is doable but not accessible for stroller or wheelchair. Ample parking but on a busy day you may not find spots. No washroom and only one bench. This lake has potential of development I wonder why ita not done yet. Over all I am glad we stopped as views are breath taking. Wild life were very close and the mountains looked amazing. This fascinating lake is well worth a visit, especially during the fall and winter months when it is no longer a blue-green lake, filled with fish, but rather a mudflat! The lake disappears - the water, drained out through a large underground cave system, resurfaces 16kms downstream. This happens each year! It was interesting to see the animal tracks criss-crossing the mudflats. There was also an eagle's nest in the trees (take binoculars) along the shore which survived the fires which ravaged the area. There are informative display boards near the car park providing details...

Medicine Lake has some excellent views. It's also part of Jasper's dark sky preservation sites so you can get some wonderful photos of the milky way and other astrophotography. Please do not approach wildlife! There are many species of animal in the area such as moose, elk and black bear that should never be approached. I have seen a few tourists do this from time to time and it puts you at risk as well as the wildlife itself. Have fun...

The parking area is a well-known spot for eagle watching. I heard that on clear days, photographers often come here to capture the scene. Today was cloudy, but we were lucky to see an eagle chick with its mother.
