Played: August 25, 2025 My first experience at Waterton Lakes Golf Course, about 25 years ago, was less than ideal. We played on an extremely cold and windy fall day, which made for a miserable round. Despite the challenging conditions, we were captivated by the stunning scenery and vowed to return one day for a second shot. This time, we were blessed with nearly perfect weather: sunny, warm, and with only a light breeze. Waterton Lakes Golf Course is a truly special place. Be aware that the course's highest point is at an elevation of 1,330 meters (4,365 ft), so if you're not used to the thinner air, walking the course can be quite a workout. The layout, a classic Stanley Thompson design that opened over 100 years ago, is a wonderful journey through the valley. It's not a long course at 6,123 yards, but it offers a variety of holes that climb up and down, making it challenging enough for the average golfer. The elevation and dry, firm fairways provide some welcome bonus yardage off the tee. Every hole is a postcard moment, with towering Rocky Mountains serving as a breathtaking backdrop. The tee boxes were small but level and in good condition. The fairways were dry and brown due to a very dry summer, but the ball still sat up nicely. The first cut of rough was minimal, but the second cut was a thick and unforgiving fescue grass. The small, mostly flat greens were in good condition, well-watered, and held approach shots nicely. The clubhouse is a small, quaint building that feels like a step back in time. It has a well-stocked pro shop and a full food service with a patio overlooking the first tee and the 18th hole. While I didn't see a driving range, there was a putting green right in front of the clubhouse. Overall, I would highly recommend Waterton Lakes Golf Course. It's worth the drive just for the scenic views alone. While it was a bit overpriced for the course type and its condition, it's important to remember its remote location and the difficult year-round conditions they contend with to keep it operating. It's a true gem and a fantastic experience for any golfer who appreciates stunning scenery and a classic layout.

This course is so under rated. The new management that has been in place over the last few years have really turned things around. Awesome to see such an amazing, unique, historical, fun golf course, finally get some love that it really deserves. If you like golf, it's worth the trip to Waterton alone. The course conditioning has improved 10 fold, so kudos to the Superintendent and Turf care team. The food and the staff in the restaurant are great. The Head Pro and golf shop team are friendly and make you feel welcome. The whole experience is how golf should be. Picturesque, old school, mountain golf. What more could anyone want!

I have revisited this course last week and it seems since management being changed, course shape being very much changed dramatically. I have been golfing this course four years and the condition of fairway and surroundings being dramatically change. I loved this course and witnessed that course watered in the morning and afternoon which we did not see on this year. It cause fairway is way to dry and too hard to hit the shot. It was way too dry. Green was ok shape though.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with the place that a bomb on every fairway couldn’t fix. Bumpier that the pot holes in Montreal. No refreshments until 11 am. No bathroom until 11 am except ones on the course. Greens are long and very bumpy and plenty of dead spots and roots growing on some greens. For $80, I expected more. The wind didn’t help. Strange layout. 235 and 247 par threes. 319 par 4. 425 par 4 into a gale force wind always. But the was a maintenance person spending his day on flowers on 16. Divots were fixed on 17 tee with sand dumped in mounds. Took me a while to level them out. Bunkers haven’t seen attendance is weeks. Grass...

We had a fantastic experience golfing the back nine at Waterton Park Golf Club on my birthday. The course is set against absolutely stunning scenery—mountains, lakes, and fresh air made for a memorable round. The layout was both fun and challenging, with just the right mix of elevation, hazards, and variety to keep things interesting. The staff were friendly and welcoming, and we appreciated the relaxed, laid-back atmosphere. Bonus points for the great snacks—perfect for refueling mid-round. All in all, a wonderful way to spend a special day. Highly recommend to anyone visiting Waterton and looking for a scenic, well-kept course with genuine...
