I had a great experience hiring Amber for a makeup lesson, though I was an unusual client as my main priority was customized product recommendations. I am an actor and wanted to review and restock my audition kit to perfect a 'standard neutral camera-ready face'.

While Amber was clear that she is not a film & tv MUA, I wanted someone who knew about vegan and eco products who could come in person to test stuff and compare with what I already had, help me figure out what to keep vs. toss, etc.

Amber was communicative, prompt, thorough, and put a lot of time and care into providing me extra resources (like color guides) as well as some fun samples. Very generous with offering follow-up advice and check-ins via email.

I really learned a lot from my time with her as she ended up naturally teaching me technique along the way, and it was nice to spend time with someone who really loves the art and science of makeup, especially since I've always seen it as a necessary evil in my profession.

The one note I will add is that my main priority had been to leave with a clear shopping list of exact product and shade recommendations, especially for foundation and concealer. That didn't end up happening as she either didn't have the exact shade I needed with her or maybe not everything in her kit was labelled by shade. This would be totally fine if you just wanted the application or lesson! In the end, I didn't mind that I didn't get the exact shopping list I originally wanted because I got so much else out of the lesson that was also really helpful, and she was able to make a lot of other specific recommendations that I did use. Amber takes a true teacher approach to the make up lesson from notes to a focus on education and handouts to leave with you. Her dedication to cruelty free, vegan and low waste products was amazing. She asked me a detailed interview in advance to understand what products I already had and used ,and what products I love, or have not loved in the past. She came to the session prepared with hand written notes outlining how to use the skin care I already had, making suggestions of additions to add in and how and where to use them. She had many samples to leave with me so that I could try items out for a few days before making a purchase commitment. The products she showed me were in a variety of price ranges, which was a relief when you are budget conscious. She truly made me feel comfortable and educated. The end result of the make up application was comfortable and I felt confidant. I am excited to start this new make up journey for myself in a way that is kind to the environment, my body and my wallet.
