McIntyre Bluff is a key topographical feature located in the south Okanagan Valley near Oliver, British Columbia, Canada. This gorgeous low mountain is a prominent landmark in the south Okanagan Valley and has an extensive geological history. The hike up to the summit is a diverse and somewhat strenuous hike, but the stunning scenery is most definitely worth it. This trail starts on private land on Covert Farms Family Estate winery. The owners are kind enough to let hikers park in their parking lot and follow the marked route through the vineyards to the property boundary where it crosses into provincial land. The hike then winds through White Lake Grasslands Protected Area (BC Parks), before crossing into Nature Conservancy of BC property. The route traverses a diverse and picturesque landscape including vineyards, semi-arid scrub land, grassland, lake shore, dry forest and rocky barrens. The vistas up top are breathtaking with expansive panoramas of the south Okanagan Valley and surrounding mountains. The vegetation is interesting as well with some of the most extensive patches of Antelope Brush (Purshia Tridentata) in Canada. Other plants along the way common to the semi-arid scrub land/dry forest plant community of the Okanagan Valley include Brittle Prickly Pear Cacti (Opuntia Fragilis), Big Sagebrush (Artemisia Tridentata) and Ponderosa Pine (Pinus Ponderosa). This hike has incredible scenery and is a natural wonder of the...
