Upper Joffre Lake is absolutely worth the hike and is definitely nicer than the Lower Lake, though Middle Joffre Lake still takes the top spot! Sitting at an elevation of about 1,600 meters, the lake offers breathtaking views of Matier Glacier and surrounding peaks. The challenging trail, with a total distance of about 10 km round-trip, rewards you with stunning turquoise waters created by glacial silt. While it may not quite match Middle Joffre, Upper Joffre Lake is still an unforgettable spot with some of the best scenery in BC.

Absolutly gorgeous! 7km return to get the the upper Joffre Lake. Did it mid febuary xith a lot of snow, we didn't take snowshoes or even microspikes, just hiking shoes which was doable on the way up (some VERY slippery sections) but really hard on the way back (we ended up sliding in our butts all the way down! And thayt was FUN! 😅) So yep.. take microspikes during winter time! Scenaries are absolutly stunning, worth the effort 100%!

Beautiful area, well marked trail , gorgeous views especially at 2nd and 3rd lakes. It’s a 7km hike round trip so wear proper footwear like trail shoes or light hiking boots for good traction, not just running shoes. Carrying bear spray is recommended. Need park pass to access trail. Go early in the day to ensure your parking spot.
