Captain Wayne's Marine Excursions — Local services in Bay Bulls

This tour is heavily weather dependent and we were informed by email that the date/time we booked was cancelled due to unfavourable weather conditions but were given a chance to reschedule to another operating date/time which was great because our itinerary was packed.

When we arrived, it was a small group (which we prefer) and it was straight forward to get sorted out and prepared. We were given special PFD coats that would keep us warm and provide the necessary safety. The coats didn’t smell and were a welcome piece of equipment as it was chilly on open water. Kids get a regular PFD to my recollection so if you have young kids, I would suggest to dress them in the appropriate layers or double check with Capt. Wayne.

The boat is a comfortable ride and I felt very safe despite the open ocean trek to the island. You will get wet. Captain Wayne is knowledgeable and a good guide in providing lots of details and background about marine life and the surrounding area. You will not be disappointed. We did not see whales on our trip but we were probably nearing the end of the season so it wasn’t surprising but I bet it would have been fun to get close to them in the water. I had the pleasure of taking my parents on Captain Wayne's today. I had never gone whale watching before, but some Captain Wayne came highly recommended from some friends. We could not have been happier! It's a smaller boat and they had good jackets for everyone as part of the trip.

Captain Wayne was very personable. He had a wealth of knowledge on the all the different variety of birds, whales and the iceberg we saw. And he was genuinely excited to show us the wildlife. He spent just the right amount of time letting us get plenty of pictures.

I would highly recommend Captain Wayne's Marine Excursion's to anyone that wanted a more intimate wildlife experience. I can't wait to go again.

Thank you Captain Wayne! Our goal was to see and learn. You and Deb helped us do exactly that. We were lucky enough that it was a slightly overcast and quiet day and were able to book a private tour. No whales, but we have a whole new understanding and respect of local geography, the fishing industry and birding. You're right, the puffins are so cute!
