edited review because I accidentally hit post too early, and had this review at 2 stars instead of 3, and didn't get to write my commentary.
To start with the good, the selection is quite good for a game/card shop in this town. Despite my three stars, I'd argue it's got the best level of variety of both cards and games. The location is great, for me personally it's even within walking distance which I enjoy. I truly wish I could have a better time trying to make purchases here.
The main problem I have with the store, is that whenever I've gone in by myself, regardless of how busy it is, I've had a difficult time getting to talk to the people behind the counter aside from like one guy who I do try and work with whenever I've tried to go in, but he is usually busy with someone else. Some examples, I've never been asked if I was looking for anything specific, told to ask if I had any questions, told that there's an online store which actually showcases some of the stock available that's not actively on display, overall very not helpful. Up until recently it had been awhile since I had gone to Bastion Games, because I had been underwhelmed and a little put off by that kind of environment, but my boyfriend and I wanted to see if there was any pokemon cards so we went. Hands down when I went with my boyfriend, it was an amazing experience, we we're greeted, when it was our turn in line the employee talked to us about products, told us what was available and where to find it in the display cases, and the guy who was helping us told me about the online store and helped direct me through it so I could look for specific cards I had been looking for, and this was all while the store had been busy, though it did die down near the end of our trip.
Having that lovely experience, I decided to go back a few days ago by myself while my boyfriend was out with his friends, and it was a bit better than when I had gone by myself in the past. I was greeted when I went in by the guy who was at the cash register, and I had asked about some pokemon products on the shelf and was given some good answers and even tips on what was worth my time, but after looking at some singles in the case it was a struggle for some reason to ask any questions about the "bulk" cards behind the counter. I was near a different employee than the first guy, so I tried to ask the guy nearest to me as it was slow and he was standing there, seemingly not busy. When I attempted to ask questions the employee was a bit short with me, not really seeming at all like he wanted to talk to me about the products, which doubled with the fact he wouldn't even look in my direction, constantly turned around and was more invested in watching what was going on at the tables, I ended up leaving without getting anything. I was told in the previous trip that if I asked I could go through some of said bulk to look for cards, but when I had asked a few questions first like if it was even sorted slightly by like set or generation the employee told me I wouldn't be able to find anything and I should just go look online, despite even initially saying I'd like to go through them either way, and he just kinda stood there watching the games at the tables and then I said "okay thanks anyway," and left.
I'm open to the fact I may not be the best socially and could have tried to talk to a different worker or something, but I do customer service and have for a long time, I think some of the employees need more training or alternative training on customer service. I don't know if my experiences have been because I've been a girl in there alone or not, and I'm not trying to claim that, because I'll never know, but considering I had a great time when a guy was with me it has unfortunately been a thought that's crossed my mind.
Tl:Dr; some employees need better customer service skills, some don't. The selection of board games and cards is great. I've heard so many wonderful things about this place but I apparently can't have a good experience unless my...
Read moreThis LGS provides an extravagant array of cards and boosters, some of which are often hard to find. They also have a bunch of cool board games and accessories for such. I have driven over an hour to come here on multiple occasions just to give them my business. That being said, I ran into a problem with one of their card’s prices recently(no fault of their own), and upon displaying my frustration through a previous google review, was called upon by the owner himself, who quickly resolved my issue in a most polite and honest manor. I really appreciate that he took time out of his Saturday to help me as quickly and efficiently as he did. Much respect! If you like board games and Magic the Gathering, you gotta give...
Read moreGreat place to play pokémon, board games, and spend time together with friends and the family. Our family really enjoyed learning a new game, Ingenious, last night from your free selection of games; and I learned just how Ingenious my wife and kids were. It was also a great hour laughing with eachother, without any phones or technology. Give this place a shot! A great, free place for a fun date night. There was no pressure to buy anything. The store owners encouraged us to just have fun and try their free games at the free tables. We will be back, and support this business by purchasing future family games from them. Would love to have a table service option for...
