We tried to respect the "private property" signs that were on all the main access areas because we didn't want to have to deal with any possible unhinged maniac schizo-sounding homeowners (I'd read on a local Reddit forum that there's at least 1 guy who chases and harasses people regularly with a go pro strapped to his chest) and so we took a different access farther away.
The trails that actually go down to get to the falls it seems are for mountain bikes, not hiking, and the looser topsoil resulted in my friend slipping very awkwardly on the steep slope and shattering her foot to pieces.
Luckily we hadn't gone far in off the gravel access road since we just wanted to look and assess the start of the trail first before committing.
But she still had to wait in agony for an hour for firefighters to drive up and help us out, there were no ambulances available so the firefighters helped her into the car and I just took her myself and then we dealt with a 9 hour wait time at the hospital which is in shambles right now probably from staffing issues.
They need to open up the proper hiking trails again and tell the NIMBY loser homeowners to get a life because this was ridiculous and completely unnecessary.
For anyone who's really determined, I say do what other folks have suggested and ignore the signs and take the usual routes. Pretty sure the cops won't care if they get called anyway and hiking is literally not hurting the poor...
Read morePlease note this isn't a picture of the falls itself, just a little run off right below it, I couldn't get any pics of the falls without people in it. On a nice warm day we decided going for a walk somewhere. Crystal falls was our destination so we get to where we can park and there isn't a lot of parking at the base where you start. It's a nice little dirt path that's strewn with pebbles and sticks, a good place to bring a dog. the water wasn't turbulent it was clear and cool. A lot of people were tubing and just sitting in it to escape the summer heat. The walk itself was good, it wasn't difficult, I didn't even notice any elevation if there was one. We got there in about 45 minutes, and I tell ya after that walk, taking off your socks and shoes and even just sticking your feet in the water is refreshing enough for it to be worth it! There were several people along the trail and at the falls, it's a good spot to just sit and relax and listen to the water and see the forestry. The path continues if you want to keep going, or just head back to the base and go on your merry way! Thanks for having us...
Read moreNice, easy hike through the forest that ends at a smaller, but very pretty waterfall.
3 and 3 Go here if: You have kids and/or dogs (flat, easy hike but still enjoyable); You want to do a trail run (mostly root-free, clean trail); You like taking photos of rivers/waterfalls (you can get real close to it but watch out for the black hole of nothing at the base. First third of trail is beside river)
Might not be fun if: You want a challenging hike (this trail itself is easy. However, it does continue after waterfall to more trails); You don't like scramble over rocks (the trail is good, but at the waterfall, to really enjoy it and get close, you need to get over some rocks); You don't have lots of time (the hike can be done quickly but you will miss a lot of the views of river and you will want to...
