I love this gym! I cannot tell you how happy I was when I found out there was a gym in Muskoka.
Kevin, the owner of the gym greeted my husband and I upon checking in and is the friendliest person ever. We were here for two weeks and he suggested we get the “experience pass” which would allow us to try out the gym for 14 days, unlimited entries and rentals included. What an amazing deal! Very worth it, otherwise it’s $21 for a day pass which by the way, still more affordable than the prices you see in downtown Toronto.
I could also tell that Kevin put a lot of effort and thought into building his gym. From the slanted mat by the moonboard, to the the mini coffee/snack station, it made me wish that we had a gym like this back in Toronto. Kevin and his team spends A LOT of time cleaning the gym, when we paid a visit on two separate occasions, the gym was SPOTLESS – the cleanest climbing gym I’ve ever seen. Bonus was finding the foot wash on the second level, that was my favourite thing from the whole gym, I mean who wants to leave with smelly feet after a hard session 😊
Climbs are true to grade and overall, flowy. I love that the beginner climbs also required a little bit of thinking, they aren’t straightforward climbs and required a bit of technicality which I very much appreciate. I would say for someone who has been climbing for almost 3 years, the V5+ starts getting a bit more challenging! Occasionally, they will also have guest setters from Boulderz set some of their climbs.
For the board addicts, there is 2024 moonboard on the second level as well!
I hope to be back in the near future! Kevin, you need to open another gym in...
Read moreGreat little gym. Short walls but diverse climbs. Plenty of bouldering and top rope . Set up for lead too. Enjoyable and thoughtful route setting. They also have a training area on the upper level with 2024 moonboard system.
My only qualms are: the overbearing staff (never experienced anything like this at the other dozen gyms I've been to in north america) its almost like they've been trained to babysit adults.... -the lack of harder routes on the auto belay. -there was also an incident where a member of staff came up to us completely unsolicited to tell me I missed the rose move at a specific part in a climb. I'd think staff would know that beta spraying is bad etiquette .
One suggestion I'd have to keep people off the matts is to colour code the V grades rather then having the tape match the hold colour. You have to walk right up to the climbs to see the grading which is tough when its busy and you're trying to keep...
Read moreWent to Climb Muskoka for our first visit with a few friends. Immediately we felt welcomed and checking in was straight forward and easy. Once we were all set, we had our first time orientation. The staff at Climb Muskoka clearly care about your safety and enjoyment. This was the best gym orientation I have experienced. Once climbing, we found routes were well planned, and provided excellent opportunities for all ability levels to both climb easily, and challenge themselves. The staff were always present and happy to offer advice on climbing technique and help solving bouldering problems. After all of that, they went above and beyond offering recommendations for new gear that I could buy to make future visits even better. Overall, you will not be disappointed with your visit. The facility is absolutely beautiful, the routes are great, and the staff are amazing. Thanks...
