Very welcoming attitude at this golf course! Love how accessible they are making golf, which is much needed in a modern a world. As for the course, where it lacks in distance, it more then makes up for with challenging greens. The greens were surprisingly fast, with lots of undulations. GIRs are easy to come by with the wide open fairways and rather short track, but a GIR here is by no means a guarantee for par. Where you put it on the green matters here. Miss the green and you need to be tactical with your short game with lots of elevation variations around the greens, and did I mention the greens were fast? While the course may be short, the par 3s are not, from the tips many of the par 3s are 190 yrds+ and play into the wind. The two short par 3s play downhill with the wind which makes for challenging club selection. Generally the conditions at the course were fairly good with the greens being in terrific condition. The fairways were a bit lacking on some holes, but I don't think that detracts much from this course, nor do I think it bothers too many here (myself included). Tee boxes on the course were okay. The driving range has great visuals and targets but the grass on the tees were a bit rough and many of the range balls need to be taken out of rotation (lots of split balls). But overall a great place to...

Muskoka is known for its expensive, high end golf courses. I recently played 3 of its mid tier options; Muskoka Highlands, North Granite Ridge and Lake St George. They are all good value and kept in very good condition. Of the 3 courses, Muskoka Highlands had the best conditioned tee boxes and sand traps. The greens putted well and were of moderate speed. It is a fun course, offering a lot of open vistas of the surrounding countryside. Many holes are lined with thick fescue, but the fairways are generous enough so that staying out of fescue is usually not a big problem. The grass on a few of the fairways was a bit spotty. The course is par 69 and under 6000 yds from the back tees. If you play from the suggested tee blocks, based on your driving distance, you will have an enjoyable round. Kudos to the management for making golf more accessible. On my recent round I saw two golfers out with well behaved dogs and a father out with his toddler in a stroller modified to also...

All in all not a bad course with wide forgiving fairways. The rough is rough and you will lose balls and the greens are 6/10 at best. The 1 star is based on the terrible greens staff who are present at all times of the day and dont care if they infringe on your game. They will be watering the greens on the par threes while you are at the tee box or will turn on the fairway sprinklers while you are teeing off. When I approached the staff member who did that, they told me to play around the sprinklers (the entire fairway was being covered, you had to drive onto the adjacent fairway to get around the water). They were both rude and condescending, the general manager didnt care when I told him of the interaction. There are much better courses in Muskoka if you dont want a greens crew ruining your day.

My reservation time was 08:36, nearly 2 hours after the 0700 opening. The issue occured on...

We were in Muskoka for vacation and wanted to experience golfing in Muskoka. We didn't reserve a cart when booking a tee time. The staff said there were not enough carts for our group, and our tee time was 8:00 am! The course charged $10 for a rental push cart! However, the staff is polite. When we finished the round, we saw a lot of carts parked. The course is not easy to walk for someone who doesn't golf regularly. The green fee for two plus two push carts was $188. The green condition was okay, but the tee blocks were horrible. The fairways were really dry. I feel it was way overpriced for the money I paid. In southwestern Ontario, where I live, paying $188 for two, you will golf with a cart and in much nicer condition.

The environment is always so nice at Highlands. The staff are so pleasant and you can feel the family vibe when you’re around the course. Being able to bring my dog to this course the last two years has been so amazing too. Such a great place to train him and let him run free. I don’t really know anyone to golf with around here but have always found some great guys willing to let me join their groups. It’s a shorter course with great greens and I’ve certainly made it my second home. Always looking forward to my next round. Probably some of the best sunsets around too.
