Slightly lower per person entrance fees would have been good in my opinion, yes they are supplying the land to do this which is great and we are grateful for, as well as they have the pricey snack bar like all movie theaters... However they don't have the luxury bells and whistles like inside a theater bit are charging as though they do... plus, because of the la d space needed for a drive in they are quite a piece away from Ottawa, I think if they lowered their per person price even by $2 or $3, the place would be packed, as that puts the gas $ back into the customers pocket to get there... that being said, I know that's not there problem, but wouldn't it be better to be full at $2 a person less in your parking lot then to be half or so full? Also we learned our newest car and many others there- the outside lights dont completely go off when you need to have your accessory/radio on, which sucks for everyone as you get others lights in your rear or side mirrors. When driving in we mentioned this and they said they supply garbage bags at the concession stand- which is nice... it we asked so we knew. It would be nice if they announced it on the screen or as they noticed cars with the issue went up to them and gave them one half if a heavy duty one cut into quarters to cover all their lights. However youd also need tape or magnets... this all goes into costs know, so perhaps put a " light cover kit" together for a minimal courtesy cost of $2 or $3 ... and ask drivers if newer vehicles as they enter the theater if their lights turn off when the radio is on, and if they say no, sell them a kit at the ticket booth so they already have it when driving in and parking so they can get out and put it on their cars? With a reminder label on the pack to remove them before driving off when they leave. Just a thought, I don't know legal implications. However for other folks, I suggest you take that stuff with you and or to cover your side and rear mirrors so other peoples vehicle lights arent bothering you throughout your experience. Amanda of course, enjoy yourself! It is a fun family night out opportunity, drive...
Read moreHaving not went to a drive-in movie for quite a few years, I made a last-minute decision with my girlfriend to head over to the Port Elmsley Drive-in on a Thursday evening. The $20 admission was well worth the two films which would have ran us double the price at a Ciniplex or Landmark.
So in we went, opened the back of the Jeep and laid down half a dozen pillows to comfortably lay reclined against the back of the seats and watch some movies. Overall, we had a really good experience!
Unfortunately the sound quality was lacking - but is to be expected at a nostalgic 'retro-feeling' place like this. Also, one of the movies ended up being a bit of a letdown (I expected better from Christopher Nolan in Dunkirk - just wasn't impressed), and the other was utterly terrible (exactly what I expected from Annabelle 2), but that's certainly not the drive-in's fault!
We brought our own snacks and drinks, so we didn't get a chance to try the concessions, but the main building seemed fairly well-maintained and clean. The washrooms were fine (apparently an upgrade from what they used to be, according to my girlfriend).
Certainly worth a visit if you have a free evening! I would recommend going on an evening early or late in the summer so the flies won't be too bad! Definitely bring bug spray...
Read moreHappy that a good ol' drive-in is still kicking around. Sometimes low techytechy can be vibes. Food and snacks are very reasonably priced; poutines are large and come in a build-it-yourself-box and are yummy. There are three rows in the front for cars and three rows in the back for SUVs and trucks. Recommend you get $15 window screen covers from Canadian Tire or Amazon so you can roll the windows down and not sweat to death or get eaten alive by mosquitoes. While you're there buy a $30 battery-powered radio you can use instead of your car stereo to tune into the movie's audio and save your car battery from dying (should have a battery radio in case of emergencies anyways). They start the movies according to sun-down and each time I've gone that's been 21:00 and I've had to bounce before the second movie and I have to trek the 1hr back to Ottawa and let my dogs out to pee. Recommend you take Fallowfield Rd because the 416 route will force you on a long, rural road that has been partially ripped up forever and spits gravel and dust and you don't wanna be worrying about your paint job instead of...
