The In Home Chef — Local services in Dutton/Dunwich

We used the In Home Chef for our wedding in the spring at Prim Peony. Sam and Thomas really are a phenomenal team and they are also really great people to work with! You can tell both have a true passion for the wedding industry.

Thomas and his team are extremely talented. Most if not all of our guests commented on how amazing the food was. We opted for the buffet style meal and the way they set up the buffet was as impressive as the taste of the food!

Everyone was so friendly and kind. Thomas himself came to my husband and I to ask how everything was going and if there was anything he could do to make it better on multiple occasions. After joking about a specific drink my friends and I wanted, he hand made them for us, even making one of the ingredients from scratch! They were active throughout cocktail hour and dinner adamant to make sure everyone was more than satisfied. As an added bonus, it is worth noting and appreciating that some of the ingredients come from their own garden and that they do their best to support local.

The late night pizza buffet was a huge hit. I know from past experience the late night buffets can be hit or miss but not ours! Two of our guests were even inspired to make their own pizza ovens at home after the wedding, however the handmade pizza will be hard to duplicate.

We hired Thomas for a large family dinner. Overall the experience was adequate. Here are the hi-lites: nice presentation in terms of plating and dishware excellent professional server who took things up a notch and was efficient and polite prompt arrival and good clean up of the kitchen after the dinner was over timing of the courses ran smoothly

Here are the low lites: portions were on the smaller side not particularly generous with fruits / vegetables (for example “chocolate forest dessert with seasonal berries” had only 2 raspberries per plate which is a bit insulting as I had specifically requested them re: keto-lite diet for adults) kids pasta meals were not what we ordered and none of the 9 kids liked it - it was bland which was disappointing (no cheese at all) (in addition, was told the batch of broccoli was “bad” so there was none and apparently no ability to procure any from the grocery store?? - this was after booking the dinner and arranging the menu months prior). We wanted to include the kids in the experience, but at $15 per child we should have just ordered pizza for the kids from elsewhere - unhappy kids equals not so happy parents Thomas never indicated he would not attend as the chef until the 11th hour. He sent his ‘lead chef’.

Thomas is the complete professional you look for in a caterer. From first meeting him he walked us through the process of setting up the food for our wedding. After a short conversation, Thomas took in our theme, guest numbers, and ideas and quickly provided us with a sample menu, rental items required, and overall budget. Throughout the planning process, Thomas made himself available from his busy schedule to discuss ideas, beverage pairings, and dietary substitutions. Thomas was very accommodating to our vision and went above and beyond by securing a number of tough to find craft beers for our wedding bar.

As for the food and service, it was beyond our expectations. Thomas and his staff absolutely nailed it. The food was cooked to absolute perfection and the service was timed to perfectly coincide with our schedule of speeches. The passion Thomas has for his craft is evident in the attention to detail he puts into the ingredients he uses, his creative use of flavours and the way each dish was plated to create a visual experience that looked as good as it tasted. The service staff was attentive and professional, ensuring meals were served and cleared in short order, attending to any guests needs during the service, and providing fast bar service to keep people on the dance floor during the reception.
