Naturally pretty, different ...... but at times not so friendly. Without going into details, my experiences have not been a nice ones but I can't let bad people or their projection of negativity completely sway the rating. When reaching out to authorities, they always took the report seriously, investigated and intervened to some capacity.
It has its own pace and it's nice to get away from bigger cities or provinces to have a different perspective.
The blueberries being everywhere is amazing along with other berries or veg you can forage for.
The moose are everywhere but I never got to see one yet. They did cut across my lawn when I wasnt home but my security cameras saw them and alerted me.
The winters are pretty, the nights are so dark I could see the stars for the first time in my life. Some areas you can see northern lights and you can see the capelin or squid just off shore and catch some. There are whales and seals and even heard there was a polar bear.
Lots of trails for hiking and camping and many micro climates and amazing archeological things and truly a time capsule illustrating yesteryear and nostalgic.

Read moreLOVED IT!! Arrived in Port aux Basques via NS by ferry. This was our 2nd trip to NL, this time, the western coast to northern tip and on to Labrador. The 1st time, all the way to the furthest east coast point that you can go, plus a few extra rocks past the sign of course. Awesome trip......can't even begin to say enough about the people, scenery and quiet, quiet nature! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!! We tried moose burgers, YUM, and lobster, scallops, shrimp, crab legs. Also the weird NL "topping" on every menu, for almost everything, everywhere...of hamburger meat, dressing (which is like turkey stuffjng) and gravy. Interesting taste, on a poutine, but worth a try. Make sure you get gas every chance you have, just to make sure, sometimes gas stations are a little far from each other. GO TO...
