Warning: Thousand Islands RV Center Sold Us a Rotten RV
As a retired police officer of 30 years, I'm speaking out to protect others from a nightmare experience that has left my family and me feeling betrayed and disappointed. My wife and I retired, eager to make up for lost family time with our son in the Canadian Armed Forces. We thought buying an RV would be the perfect way to create new memories together.
In the late summer of 2024, we purchased a trailer from Thousand Islands RV Center for approximately $40,000. We had paid for a seasonal spot for both our son and his family and us. We had built a deck to maximize our enjoyment and were in the process of making the spot our own. Our dream was short lived
We followed all the instructions regarding maintenance on the trailer and winterized it properly. However, in the summer of 2025, we noticed screws popping out of the tape, and when we pulled it back, we were shocked to see that the floor was falling through and had rotted. There were several screws popped out, and silicone was all over it. Our hearts sank as we realized that our RV, which was supposed to bring us joy and adventure, was actually a ticking time bomb.
We contacted a local RV repairman, who advised us that the rot on the bump-out had been there for at least 2 years and had been covered up. We were also told that this was extensive damage and would be expensive to repair. We were devastated. How could a reputable dealership like Thousand Islands RV Center sell us a product with such significant damage?
We contacted the dealership and spoke to Adam, the general manager. Unfortunately, his response was not what we expected. He was curt, condescending, and appeared to not care about our situation. He repeatedly told us that used trailers were sold "as is," ignoring the fact that his staff should have disclosed the damage to us. When we asked how his staff could have missed such a significant issue, he claimed that they only checked for "major things" like gas and roadworthiness. This explanation was highly unbelievable, as if they hadn't inspected the RV at all, they wouldn't have known how much to charge for it.
As he refused to help us, I asked if I needed to go public with this issue, which point he laughed at me and said, "Go ahead. I've heard it all before." This response was not only unprofessional but also showed a complete lack of empathy and concern for his customers.
We have been advised that the damage will cost us a minimum of $5,000-$7,000 to repair. This is a significant financial burden, and we are still trying to come to terms with the fact that we were sold a rotten RV.
It's clear that Thousand Islands RV Center prioritizes profit over people. They are more interested in making a sale than in ensuring that their customers are satisfied with their purchase. This is not only unacceptable but also unethical.
I hope that by sharing our story, we can prevent others from making the same mistake we did. If you're in the market for an RV, beware of Thousand Islands RV Center. Do your research, read reviews, and don't be afraid to ask questions. Your wallet and your sanity will thank you. Within days we received a message on the review from the " owner " saying they were going to look into this......and nothing since.
I would also like to point out that when we went to buy the trailer we questioned the tape at the bottom of the bump out. We were told by the salesman that it was normal and they had gone over everything. We later found out from a reputable company that the tape was not normal and been put there to repair or cover up a problem.

Read moreI would strongly advise any potential buyer to go elsewhere. Headline is great sales team, pushy finance, and appalling service. I think anybody spending $200 to 300,000 would expect exemplary service. With my first RV,, I was not told when I drove off the fore court that they already knew of problems with it and had ordered parts. That was for a broken window lock. As time went on , with cupboards flying open wherever we drove we realized that Winnebago had failed to put any of the looking clips on the cupboards. We brought the RV back to have this fixed but whoever tried to fix it did it did such a poor job that the locks did not work since they were placed about quarter of an inch from where they should have been. We part exchanged the C-Class for an A-Class. Strangely there was only one single key available despite the fact that it was only a year old. The TV remotes were missing. What we did not know until our first trip was that the outside cupboards kept opening as you drove... I had to pay to have these fixed despite only having it for a short while... One plug socket did not work, the toilet leaked, the front blind was split and broken, some of the trim was coming off, and the door did not work . This meant that we would be regularly locked out of the vehicle or as we were driving along it would open. We are now 7 months on and the problem continues which means that we are unable to actually use this expensive asset. There have been numerous conversations with service . Twice I've had to go in in person because phone calls were not returned. Platinum level insurance I got literally covers none of the Interior problems we face so I've had to personally pay for the trim and the blind to be mended. . I left the RV with them for several weeks to have the door fixed. I went to pick it up and made a point of asking the service engineer to come and check that they had fixed it. Sure enough the handle was wobbling around at the door did not close properly. Since that time the best I've had is a comment that I might need to buy myself a complete new door when the problem is self-evidently the lock. Over the last few weeks I've been waiting for some sort of positive news from the service department... But have had none. I'm now finally losing my patience. I can clearly tell any prospective buyer that whether you buy a brand new vehicle or fairly new used vehicle you will have a positive sales experience but once something goes wrong, which it will, then you are on your own if you're planning on buying a vehicle from this company i would strongly recommend that you read what I've written and speak to a couple of references who've experienced the frustration of dealing with the service department which does not have enough skilled experience personnel to do the work that they're being asked to do. I do think the root of this problem is a lack of skilled stuff, but nothing excuses the appalling communication and the apparent lack of concern that someone could pay so much and be treated quite so badly. Buyer. You have other options... Use them
EDITED REVIEW We are now several weeks further on. After my first review , above, I received a phone call asking what it would take for me to take it down. I said all I really wished for was an RV with the door that closed. The service manager promised me therefore to get in touch with Winnebago and get back to me with their advice. After a few weeks when I had heard nothing I emailed the service department and I have still not had a reply. It is now 12 months since I bought the RV . It has a duel that will not remain closed and that is 6nable...
Read moreHad issues with 1000 Island RV in the past but thought we would give them a chance to redeem themselves. Were we ever wrong!
We had a leak in our trailer's rear window so we made an appointment with them. The appointment was for Tuesday Sept 30th but we dropped it off the day before. We were told that if they can't have it done on Sept 30th, it would be done "for sure" the following day for our camping trip planned for Thursday Oct 2nd. Thursday morning I give them a call as we had not heard anything back, only to be asked: "Which trailer is yours again?" They had not even looked at it, claiming they werenât sure which one was ours. This, even though they put a great big sticker on the side of the trailers with the ownerâs name on it. (See photo)
I drive-up to pick it up regardless as we had camping reservations made. I speak to the Service Manager & asked why the work wasnât done when we had an âappointmentâ. She claimed that appointments at 1000 Island RV are actually â5-daysâ long and would speak to the person who booked my service. She said to make another appointment for the following week & âthey would get it in right awayâ, as it was only a â1.5-hour job.â
I make an appointment for the Tuesday Oct 7th and drop it off the day before. I wait for the â5-dayâ appointment time and again no calls back. On Monday Oct 20th, 8 working days past their â5-dayâ appointment & having our trailer now for over 2-weeks, I call the Service Manager back only to be told that they havenât brought it in yet. She apologized & assured me that it was being brought in as we spoke, leaving me to believe it would be ready on the following day.
Monday, Oct 27th, as I had yet to receive a call back, I simply drove to 1000 Island RV to pick-up our trailer & bring it to a different dealership. To my surprise, it was ready but they could not be bothered to let us know, even after the Service Manager knew we were waiting for it. The Service Manager was standing there munching away on a snack when I picked it up and did not even acknowledge me or apologize for her mismanagement and their MONTH LONG, â5-DAYâ appointment. Upon inspecting their work, I noted that they had damaged our rear window in the process. I showed them the damage and left as I was not waiting another month for them to fix it. (Photo Attached)
Their service is so bad that they have to put-up signs saying that swearing at the staff will not be tolerated. Why would they have to post this if their service was so great as they claim. Just this speaks volumes as to the service you are going to get.
On another note, DO NOT believe their 4 or 5-Star Ratings either. They bribe you by offering to put your name into a draw if you give them a 5-Star Rating. So, their 5-Star ratings are âBOUGHT NOT EARNEDâ and not reflective of the service you are going to get. This dealership is as crooked & unreliable as they come.
Now, we can honestly say, that we will NEVER return to 1000...
