The canal has been abandoned since the St-Lawrence Seaway opened in 1959, and sections have been separated to accommodate roads crossing it. On one side of the canal is highway 338, and on the other side, an excellent paved bike path with picnic tables every few kilometres. The nicest section pig the bike path is near the town of St-Zotique, where the path goes through a wooded area. This path goes from Pointe-des-Cascades to Rivière-Beaudette, on the Quebec-Ontario border where it continues west on a very quiet road, but not separated from traffic for a few kilometres, after which it's separated once more, and goes as far west as Long Sault. Read moreBel endroit pour y faire une ballade à vélo (belle route pavé pour vélos) de Pointe-aux-cascades jusqu'à Rivière Beaudet (40km aller). On peut se stationner dans le parking au 83 Chemin du Fleuve à Pointes-aux-cascades. Le sentier est bordé d'arbres qui font un peu d'ombre le long du trajet. Il y a des fontaines à quelques endroits, des pompes à air et une station avec les outils nécessaires pour réparer son vélo. En plus il y a des bancs et tables à picnics le long du trajet. Tout a long du trajet il y a des dépanneurs pas loins si on veut manger en chemin. Belles places pour pêcher!
