Fantastic nature Sanctuary park awesomely maintained by a NGO/foindation (not city of Nanaimo) It is located by the Highway 19 but no access from highway hence have to exit from highway to Jingle Pot Road and go to Nanaimo Lake road via Wakasaiah Ave. Beautiful trails for kilometers is stretch. Plenty of birds, sights of Martin's, squirrels, bear, deers, beavers, raccoons and skunks been reported. It has a small lake called Morrell Lake. It's been named after Mr Morrell who donated this huge piece of land in Nanaimo. There are picnic spots with tables and benches under shelter or even open to sky. Benches have been installed all around the lake to sit and relax. Please don't go alone take a buddy. You can also access Westwood lake from here. There is free parking front of the park office.

This hidden gem off the hwy is beautiful. So quite and surreal. It has bathrooms and maps everywhere. Small little hikes to longer ones. The small one on right (10mins) , the medium length one is on left with a bridge (20 mins going downhill) and the longest one is straight that will take you around the lake. I didn't have time for that one but I will be back. Very dog friendly. Best to wear close toes shoes cuz there is lots of rocks and roots from trees. Don't forget to pick up garbage. They trail is clean. Keep BC healthy ๐Ÿ˜‰.

Really enjoy these lite trails back here. I like how you can connect at the power line which is snow cleared and connect with Westwood Lake. You can go beyond in either direction not sure how long it goes. The snowy challenge is not alot of trails were broken in but it's still lovely to walk around. One outdoor compostable washroom ๐Ÿšป available. Driving up the road access turn to get into Morrela wait of a nightmare even for 4wd. Lots of ppl stuff and the parking lot is tiny.

Morrell Sanctuary is one of the loveliest places in Nanaimo. The trails are varied and beautiful, and itโ€™s gorgeous all year but Fall is definitely one of the best times to go. Morrell is also a great place to see a variety of fungi in October November when theyโ€™re fruiting. There is also a lovely short accessible trail along boardwalks near the entrance. Wonderful for those in wheelchairs or walkers to immerse in the same beautiful place, but easier to navigate. Morrell all has and interpretive Centre and volunteer guides, so check it out in the building at the end of the parking lot. Great programs for the whole family to learn about local habitats...

This is my favorite place to walk in Nanaimo. The trails tend to be quiet, especially this time of year, but paths are very well-kept. There are lots of ups and downs, but nothing terribly difficult. For those with mobility challenges, it may not be the best choice. There is an outhouse at either end of the park with designated dog poop receptacles. Also a water bowl and dog treats at the trailhead, which is super thoughtful. Note this is not an off-leash Park, but I've seen plenty of people with unleashed dogs there. At the back of the park is a trail connecting to...
