First of all and very important: bring your own snacks, beverages and alcohol. Prices here are ridiculous since you are in the middle of nowhere. The snacks they do have are very limited for choices. There were small bags of plain chip $3, 2 kinds of chocolate bars and maybe 6 or 7 flavors of canned pop at almost $4 each. For 2 bags of chips, a chocolate bar, a water and a can of pop, I paid $17. I don't drink but people were saying a can of beer was just about $10. But when you have no other choice, you pay it. Okay, so we were there for a wedding and booked a hotel room. It was almost $240 and very basic. The bathroom was small, no tub and I killed 2 silverfish bugs in the bathroom. No microwave. No phone. No USB ports for charging devices but at least there were electrical outlets. It would have been nice if the 2 beds were queen instead of double. It did have a mini fridge and the beds were comfortable. I liked that there was no carpet however it's very noisy. You can hear everything in the hallway, the rooms beside you and above you. Something I've never ever seen in a hotel is a sign in the bathroom letting you know you will be charged $5 for a face cloth if you use it to clean makeup. They do provide black facecloths for it. I don't wear makeup so it wasn't a problem but if you do just be aware not to wipe it off with the white face cloths. The lady at the front desk was grumpy. They were pretty strict about not letting us in until very close to the 4pm check in time. Most hotels will let you in before if rooms are available and they clearly were at this hotel. So that was a little frustrating considering the wait between the wedding ceremony and the reception. Area is very scenic and the outdoor ceremony space was lovely but of course you will have to provide your own decor or hire it out. Reception area in the Pavillion was very nice. I really liked the high ceilings. Dinner and dessert were good.

My recent stay at The Wilds Resort at Salmonier was nothing short of exceptional, deserving every one of its five stars. From the moment I arrived, I was captivated by the resort's stunning natural beauty – the serene Salmonier River, the lush, meticulously maintained grounds, and the tranquil atmosphere that truly makes it an escape from the everyday. The accommodations were impeccable, offering a perfect blend of comfort and elegance. Every detail, from the tasteful decor to the pristine condition, contributed to a truly relaxing and luxurious experience. The service was equally outstanding; every staff member I encountered was warm, professional, and genuinely committed to ensuring a memorable visit. Their attentiveness truly elevated the entire experience. A particular highlight of my stay was witnessing a beautiful wedding celebration on the grounds. The setting was absolutely picturesque, and seeing the joy and palpable love shared by the couple and their guests was profoundly moving. It was a powerful reminder of the enduring beauty and significance of connection and partnership. Amidst the stunning backdrop of The Wilds, observing such a heartfelt union truly underscored for me the essential role of love in our lives – a realization that resonated deeply and beautifully throughout my time there. Whether you're seeking a serene getaway, an adventurous golf retreat, or a perfect venue for life's most cherished celebrations, The Wilds Resort offers an unparalleled experience. It's more than just a place to stay; it's a destination where beauty, tranquility, and the spirit of connection converge. I wholeheartedly recommend it and eagerly anticipate my next visit.

As the establishment is called a resort, you would think there would be things to do. However, they offer golf, hiking trails, one pool table in the bar, and an outdoor heated pool.....that's it. There are no ping pong tables, shuffle board, darts, axe throwing, horse shoe pits, etc. We found a basketball net that was collapsed under a deck that should be assembled and placed out. The cabins or chalets are dated, and require extensive updating. The service is lacking, as we had to find a staff member and ask for fresh towels. Although there were four of us in our room, they only had enough for three peoples towels. Most rooms or chalets dont have air conditioning, but that can be mitigated by opening the many windows. The views are stunning. There are ample fire pits and Adirondack chairs. There is plenty of parking. Frankly, there's not a lot "resort" like. The potential is high, but the resort seems to miss the mark.

My sister got married last year in the summer so she booked this place to officiate her wedding ceremony and wedding party there. We had the groom’s family visiting Newfoundland from abroad for the first time, so she decided to go ahead and book a couple of villas plus some individual rooms for other guests as we were staying there for the weekend to avoid driving back and forth to the city. ||||I’m giving this place a 1 star because it is the minimum I can give them for my review to be accepted by the system. ||||Pros : ||||Location is beautiful, the nature around it is breath taking ||||It is convenient for weddings and other social events as everything is located on the same place ||||Cons : ||||1. The booking system they use to RSVP guests malfunctions all the time, they never got the comments from our guests in terms of dietary restrictions or special accommodation requirements ||||2. Since the system malfunctions, we had to call several times to correct our bookings, to make them aware of dietary restrictions and other details that other wise would have been communicated easily to the event’s organizer/management of this place. The lady in charge of my sister’s event was very unresponsive and took several days before she provide us with a reply every time something was needed. ||||3. They never answer the phone, and never check the answer machine to return customers calls. We had many people coming from Europe, Asia and other parts of Canada and several mistakes were made in the bookings, including a missing bed for one of the groom’s bothers ||||4. Once we arrived at the hotel, we had to pick up garbage, clean garbage bins, clear fridges etc as no one bothered to prepare the rooms for the next guests. They were only focused on a Golf tournament they were hosting that weekend and didn’t even bother caring for other paying-guests ||||5. The hotel is falling apart, it looks unsanitary, it really needs maintenance. Please see some of the pictures I took, dirty and stained toilets, broken glasses, not even a courtain in the bathroom so anyone can see inside. The furniture in the villas is completely old and the cloth and leather it is made of is torn and falling, so you get pulls all over your clothes when you sit . ||||7. There is an extension number on the phone in each room indicating room service, however you dial that extension and whoever answers tells you they don’t offer room service and have never heard of it ||||8. The dinning room where the breakfast is served was a mess, food all over the floor, one of my sisters asked the staff to please clean the floor as people were stepping on food all over the floor, she got eyes rolled up at her and a very rude body language from the staff and they never bother to clean up the floor did not even pick up the food||||6. Overall our experience was terrible, we made it work for my sister as she was getting married but I will never come back, or recommend this place to anyone, for sure not tourists who are willing to spend money in places like this without knowing what awaits them. ||||This was a terrible representation of what Newfoundland has to offer. This business practices are detrimental for the province economy, which is...

It was a really disappointing experience. We were really excited to go, because everyone raves about this place. From the moment we walked in it was underwhelming.

The hotel itself is very old and run down, and is in desperate need of a renovation. When we entered our room we were floored by how skeezy it was. It reminded me of a cheap Vancouver motel I stayed in as a broke university student.

We were part of a big wedding, so once we met up with the other guests we asked them about their rooms. They, like us, were shocked by the cheap quality of the rooms. We all expected something much nicer considering the resort has a good reputation. The rooms didn't even have a mini fridge to store beer, and you aren't allowed to fill a cooler with ice from their machine.

A lot of the wedding guests had also called earlier in the week (I myself did so twice) to request an early check in. When we arrived at 1pm we were unable to get rooms. Many of the female guests started doing their make up in the lobby because the wedding was at 2! To make matters worse, even the bride was checked in late the day before, and missed her golf tournament because of it.

The majority of the hotel (including their reception venue!) had no air conditioning, just fans. This made the place very hot and sticky and uncomfortable. The bars only serve Molson products, so don't expect any imported beer or liquor. They do not sell Corona on site.

Some of the guests rented cabins and villas, which were definitely a huge step up from the skeezy motel. None of them had air conditioning, however, and basic utensils such as a can opener were missing from the kitchens. There were only four of each item (cups, mugs, etc) which made it difficult for the villas and cabins sleeping 6-8 people. There were also NO LOCKS on the bathroom doors, which made things very awkward!

Also the walls in the hotel are paper thin, so when the person in the room next to you went through their closet, you could hear the hangers scraping off the rod like it was in your own room. If someone was in the hall, you could hear their every word as they passed by. Just like the door was wide open.

If you plan to stay here BRING BUGSPRAY for god's sake!!!!! The mosquitos are gnarly, I was outside for one smoke and got bitten all over my body. My husband refused to leave the venue through out the night because the flies would swarm as soon as you hit the door.

I also recommend bringing snacks as once their restaurant closes there are only a few very expensive "vending items" for sale at the front desk, and very little selection. They also do not put water bottles in your room so I would bring a pack with you

At night the air conditioners on the outside of the building hum very loudly, loudly enough that it keeps you up when you're trying to sleep and impedes conversation outside. If you are sensitive to noise I would bring ear plugs with you.

The grounds are boggy and wet so...
