My experience with escape maze was amazing from start to finish!
I was gifted 2 free admission passes and was super excited to use them because I love escape rooms, and had previously done a couple of Escape Maze’s rooms in 2017-2019.
When I called, the staff were super friendly and happy to answer questions and help. We were considering 2 different rooms, Trouble’s a Brewin’ and Apothecary Crisis. They talked us through the differences and ultimately we decided to go with Trouble’s a Brewin’. It is the ‘harder’ room of the two with more puzzles, but the story connects to The Publican House, which has sentimental value to us. Plus, we were up for a challenge.
When we arrived we were greeted by a friendly employee at the front desk, who truly brought this experience from great to amazing. Jared was super enthusiastic about the stories, cracked some great jokes and genuinely seemed happy to help throughout the entire experience.
The room itself was a lot of fun, we had lots of puzzles to get through and had to work together to get it done. The finale was really cool, I won’t spoil anything. Then Jared came in, sharing our excitement for having completed the room and let us know our time was great for only 2 people, with 6 minutes to spare.
We had a blast. Since we had gotten the first room for free with our gift passes, we actually asked if it would be possible to dive straight into a second room, if Apothecary Crisis wasn’t already in use. Even better, there was actually a discount for getting a second room in the same day. $5 off per person.
The second room was incredibly different but the puzzles were just as if not more complex, which made it a lot of fun. We did end up having to ask for a hint this time, as we got stuck in one spot for awhile. The hint Jared gave us was perfect, because 1) it referenced what we had literally just been talking about before ringing the bell and 2) was a genuine hint and not just telling us the answer, which we appreciated. We finished again with a few minutes to spare.
The escape rooms here are always complex and well thought out, I look forward to coming back to try more of them!
All in all I just want to say this place is awesome. And Jared, keep up the enthusiasm, you truly...
Read moreWe had the most charming glamping experience at Escape Maze! We stayed in the Old-Timey Caravan, which was a perfect mix of rustic charm and modern comfort. The accommodations included a clean washroom with a flushing toilet, hot showers just a short walk away, a gas BBQ with cooking pans and utensils and of course, a firepit for making s’mores which is essential for any camping trip! For those looking for a more traditional camping experience, there’s also a riverside campsite available, though it comes with fewer amenities.
Each night of camping includes two free activities, and we had such a fun time. We did an outdoor adventure trail first, which features light puzzle-solving as you walk the trail. While it’s not a traditional escape room, it’s a great way to enjoy the outdoors with a twist of fun. Just make sure you bring bug spray as you do walk through wooded areas with mosquitos.
Now, the main event—the escape rooms themselves—were absolutely fantastic. We’ve done escape rooms all over the world, and I can honestly say Escape Maze is one of the most charming and well-thought-out venues we’ve ever visited. While many of the puzzles used combination locks, the creativity in how the rooms were designed, including clever electronic triggers, made the experience feel fresh and exciting.
The team at Escape Maze were wonderful. Special thanks to Mike, who graciously accommodated us for a last-minute escape room session on a Sunday morning. The owners also introduced themselves and shared their story, which made the experience feel even more special. Everything—from the escape room set design to the paintings throughout the rooms, the electronics, and even the intro videos—was done in-house, featuring family and staff, with Peterborough itself as a backdrop. The attention to detail and storytelling really shines through.
Escape Maze is a true Canadian small business gem run with passion and heart. I highly recommend making the trip out to Peterborough area for a unique blend of camping and escape...
Read moreMe and my husband (a retired couple) just visited Escape Maze with our two grandchildren. The grandchildren came to visit us for two weeks only and we wanted to entertain them with interesting activities around Toronto. After reading reviews on the website we chose the Maze among others. After a long drive, upon arrival we discussed with the girl at the reception the best activity for our grandchildren and chose an outdoor “Gold Rush” one. Fun ??? No way!!! It was a nightmare!!! Long walk into the field and we got into clouds of mosquitoes and biting flies. All we could do was jump and run from the biting insects. We were eaten alive! There were no warnings about the insects on the website. The girl at the reception saw that we were not properly dressed (short sleeve T-shirts, shorts and sandals) yet still offered us this activity and did not even bother giving us any kind of warning about the insects. Before the activity starts the staff plays a small video with warnings like “do not smoke” or “do not climb…” and gives some verbal instructions. Not a word about the insects though!!! All bitten and with the children crying we ran back and asked to change our activity for an indoor one just for the children and one adult (though we paid for two adults $50 and were not given a senior discount nor a receipt). It was obvious that we had not even started the activity yet. Instead of apologies or an offer of a refund they asked us to pay a second time if we want to go inside! Children left the place bitten and with tears in their eyes and we went directly to a pharmacy looking for anti-itching cream. Now they call the Escape Maze “the deerfly and mosquitos farm”. I hope they will forget this place and the unwelcoming greedy hosts soon and will only remember all other interesting and beautiful places we visited and the nice people they met in Canada during...
