We had an amazing time at the Bonaventure Island. Weather was on our side and we had a bright sunny day with blue skies to enjoy the beauty of this unique place.
As a start, you will see signs to visit the island all over Percé. We bought the tickets from a booth and had to go to the Anse a Beaufils (15 minute drive south of Percé) at a scheduled time to board the ferry shuttle that takes you to the island. It's highly recommended to be there ahead of time as the lines can be long. Even though tickets are for a scheduled time, it appeared that some didn't make it on the shuttle and had to wait for the following one. So be early!
The shuttle takes you on a tour of the island (it's not that big) where you will get to see the migratory birds colonies located towards the east end of the island. The shuttle then drops you off at the terminal, west of the island.
You will find three main hiking trails crossing the island (see map). The highlight of the day was getting very close to migratory birds at the colony on the north-eastern area of the island. I won't disclose all that's there to see but it's definitely worth it. You will also find several older houses towards the south end of the island that were inhabited by the small population of settlers who once lived there.
While you're there, stay on the trails and respect the off-limits area to ensure the island stays preserved for...

Read moreMust do in Percé. We hiked the Les Colonies trail and joined the Le Chemin du Roi after that one. Took us about 3hrs the entire loop. Exceptionally clean air to breath, there's is toilets around the trails, not too many and I wouldn't recommend using them. Try using the washroom before heading to the island.
There's also a couple of places selling snacks and water, but I would also recommend bringing your own.
On the Chemin du Roi stare enough at the ocean and you'll spot dozens of sea lions. There is millions of birds congregating in this island for reproduction which makes it very unique.
Hard to believe there's such clear water beaches in...
