This is a review of the little fromagerie et savonnerie owned by Ferme Audet and located just near the bottom of the Funiculaire (downstairs alley area, approximately). I do not have an exact address.
Today I visited this small shop and met the owner/farmer. He was pleasant, eager to share his love for the products and a good conversation. Owner is bilingual and English-friendly. The shop carries several goat milk cheeses, as well as soaps and other local products of the farmer’s friends. I spent some time with the soaps (which include a natural unscented version); however, my attention was captured by the incredible goat food products!
My favourite was the 2 month aged goat cheese. Truly special and worth a sample tasting and buying! The shop sells small affordable cooler bags and ice - perfect for travellers and a nice picnic in Quebec. Of course, you MUST try the goat milk soft serve ice cream as well. I got vanilla; they also have chocolate. The goat flavour is super subtle, but still discernible to the passionate modern foodie. It is a classy and innovative treat. I repeat: YOU MUST TRY THE GOAT MILK ICE CREAM!
My interaction with the owner and my short time in this store was one of my favourite parts of Quebec! Would strongly recommend to locals and tourists alike. Let’s support businesses like Ferme...
Read moreI highly recommend Ferme Audet for goat cheese and goats' milk products! My family was visiting Québec on vacation. We were spending the day on l'Île-d'Orléans, an island that is about a 20 minute drive from the city. The island is home to many small businesses that specialize in certain foods or drinks.
We knew we wanted to find a cheese shop so we could pick up some cheese for our picnic lunch we were planning on having. We went to the first cheese shop on the island, but it was busy and lacked staff to provide tastings or explanations of all the cheeses. Cheese can be tricky if you are not a fromage concourse...which I am not. We were frustrated, so we left without buying and continued further into the island.
We found Ferme Audet and were BLOWN AWAY by the customer service we received. A complete 180 from the first stop. The owner was funny and engaging. We asked for descriptions about his cheeses and he was more than happy to explain everything to us and give us samples. We walked out purchasing more than $30 of cheese because 1. it was delicious and 2. the owner was so personable. PLEASE take the trip to the island and support this local farm. So impressed by what I...
Read moreWe were on our way to another fromagerie when we saw this on the way. Glad that we stopped by. They offered some cheese tastings with a short explanation for each, and also ice cream tasting. While I’m not a fan of goat’s milk cheese, there were 2 types that were really pleasant and didn’t have the strong goat’s taste. I also appreciate the effort of the personnel who did French and English translation for the benefit of the group visiting.
The ice cream was yummy, and you could enjoy it in the garden with their 3 young goats. The place may not be a huge store with extensive products, but a really nice place to visit, take a break and get...
