Trading Post Quality Foods — Local services in Scugog

This is THE BEST grocery store in Port Perry for high quality, local and specialty foods. The staff here are amazing, they are pleasant and genuinely seem to enjoy their jobs which makes me even more inclined to support this business.

To break things down:

The fresh produce selection is always high quality and stocked with local foods first and priced competitively for the quality, local sourcing and their portions which are pretty big.

They carry A2 milk from Sheldon Farms. Digestible, humane high quality milk is hard to source (they do have Kawartha dairy products aswell).

The butcher is again competitive in pricing and top notch in quality and the staff know their products and are always willing to help. Try their Atlantic Salmon it is the best I have ever cooked.

The frozen food selection is of quality that I have never seen for frozen foods aside from White Feather on the other side of Port Perry(same products I think) but TBH I choose to support The Trading Post because of their staff. Enough said.

Make sure to pop into the coffee room for a selection of k pods and for Muskoka coffee and other specialty blends. DO grab a bag of Naked everything Bagel Bread on the way out. Delicious.

The dehydrated dog bones are the best, they sell raw food aswell and last but not least there is an LCBO kiosk to round out your shopping.

The Trading Post is not for your cheap grocery load up's. It is however, for your quality shops but that said the pricing is competitive and I will say even reasonable in comparison to some other local options...

I have been going here for years and telling everyone. I love that they have a unique little gift section too. THIS is where I found those great scrubby pot cleaners AND the candles with wood wicks!!).

The butcher area is always packed but they recently separated their butcher area into two areas so that makes it easier. The cashing out area has just had a revamp and I did find it a lot faster. Still crowded, but easier to get in/out.

They have a nice selection of LCBO items. They also have pastries from large servings to a single serving you can easily eat in the car without having to take home and share with others .... (That doesn't apply to the alcohol ...)

I must add that their vegetables are always fresh. You never see spoiled strawberries or mold on the cauliflower. (Listen, ladies, that makes THIS place the chosen for when your husband is asked to go buy something. How many times has he returned with moldy strawberries saying "you said you wanted strawberries" followed by your response "yes, but only if they were fresh". So, this is a win here. And don't come at me, I mean no disrespect only a little comic relief for those that know the struggle is real.)

Last week on the BBQ we had mango chicken kabobs and steak kabobs. Ready made. They were approximately $15 a kabob but they were HUGE! No one can eat that much meat at one sitting. So .... we had it in wraps the next day. Delicious.

This review is targeted towards the owner(s) of Trading Post. I've broken this review down into 3 categories.

Staff/Service - the people who run your store are the main asset. Without these individuals, you will not have a store. EXCELLENT service was displayed by your staff. This was my first visit, and I will definitely come back. Sharon (meat manager) was very patient and informative. She was very welcoming, which is a huge plus. Cashier (Mercedes) took the time and explained the excellent varieties of hot sauce and spices available. She demonstrated great interpersonal skills, which bring customers back. Thank you to both of them.

Store variety - you folks have a extensive variety of quality products. I do not have to drive to Toronto to buy my spices and meat rubs anymore. The layout is excellent, and easily accessible.

Store freshness/cleanliness - it definitely shows that you take pride in the quality and appearance of your store. This is huge for some customers.

On a closing note, as a person of colour, I was reluctant in visiting your store. However, I had such a wonderful experience with your staff and the variety of products which interest me, that I can't wait to get back. Just want to say thank you. I look forward to doing business with your folks.
