The good: This park is gorgeous! You can see the river as you walk along the trails walk. There are a number of nice scenic view points for taking pictures of just reflecting. They did a great job integrating the scenery in with the human picture taking phot ops. The bad (and scary AF): there are bears in the park! They have signs out, Howe most of us don't ever expect to see one. Wrong! they are there. I came across one today when I was on the Parson trail, which is one of the longer hikes in the park. The trail is very wooded, and narrow. When I was turning at one of the bends in the road, he was literally right there maybe 20 feet away from me. I looked at him and he looked at me and I then slowly started to walk away back the way I came, Fortunately I did not panic and briskly walked back in the direction that I came. He followed me for a little bit, I could tell when I look at him over my shoulder. Eventually he stopped following me and walked a lot faster and I then eventually left the area. I told a couple that was walking a dog that there was a bear on the trail and they also turned around. Anyway just take the bear warning seriously and be alert; make a lot of noise (when on the trail - not if you see one) and just don't panic. Dont let the the Bears spoil your fun; just be careful and safe!

Gorgeous park with tons of parking... little tricky to find so set up navigation first if you’re not 100% on the location. Beautiful trails that are well marked that wind along the river side with a really diverse ecosphere. Big mossy trees and ferns and then wide open country spaces. Awesome bbq and picnic areas with proper disposal for hot coals and anything else that needs to be recycled. Keep an eye open for the Barnston Island ferry or better yet bring your bikes and ride over. It’s close and is like a trip back in time. Definitely check this out... you’ll feel like your miles from the city but it’s close and very accessible.

A great place to take a long and slow walk or cycle outside. There are various nature trails that takes about 15 to 20 minutes to reach the far end from the front. Be aware that there are many potholes on the park roadway and that gates close when the park closes. Get your vehicle out before the stated closure time or your vehicle will be locked in. Unfortunately, it is not accessible through public transit. You can also hear the sounds of a nearby industrial company even near the back of the park.

This is a fairly large park adjacent to even larger nature preserve (which is off limits for visitors). The trail network within the park is quite simple (mostly a single loop) but pretty diverse: part goes through open meadow, part - through dense shoreline forest. The park has clean toilets, open and covered picknick tables, drinking fountains for people and dogs, and plenty of parking. There's a ferry terminal nearby that takes you free of charge to Barnston Island which offers even more recreational opportunities -- it has two other small parks suitable for picknicks and a large hiking trail over the dike that...
