Wow...what a blast from the past! My 1st trip to Houston Lake was 1965 and I was 7 yrs old. The cabins were primitive at best. They had ice boxes in them instead of refrigerators..oil lamps for light! The ice was cut off the lake every spring and stored in a log cabin and buried in sawdust to keep it from melting. There was a hatchet that hung on the wall...you would chop a piece of ice off the chunks that were buried and use ice tongs to carry it to the lake to wash the sawdust off before you put it in the ice box. The camp was run by an old woman by the name of Ms. Arent or something close to that. I went to Canada every year from 1965 to 1978 with my mom and dad. Then dad and I would go a couple times a year...(spring fishing and fall fishing/grouse hunting) almost every year after that up until about 15 yrs ago. My dad passed away June of 2023 and now fishes with JC up there where the fish are always biting! Last time we were there...the staff was excellent...the fishing was good and it's always nice to eat fresh walleye fillets every evening. Miss those trips...going to have to do...
Read moreMy father took me fishing here as a young boy, long before this lodge or rooms were built. There were small rustic cabins with a single community out house near what used to be woods on the east side of camp. Aluminum v bottoms with 5hp motors for rent. (1970) We returned around 1980 and things were mostly the same but a new main office building was constructed but still the old gravel road was being used. I returned with a friend in around 1998 and the newer accommodations were in place. They were bringing in tons of gravel to possibly pave but it wasn’t done yet. Things have changed so much through the years. But I have many great memories from Huston Lake, The camp and adjoining lakes. Caught so many pike but we always had walleye and perch to cook up for dinner.

Watching a sunset over the lake or listening to the loons is so amazing. The fishing is great on this lake or if you’re willing to adventure out, there’s quite a few other lakes in close proximity. The host(s) are amazing, super sweet and attentive to whatever you need. They make you feel right at home. While it is in a remote area, it is so worth it and the cabins are fully stocked with all the basic...
