Mount Kailash (aka Gang Rinpoche), is a mountain in Tibet of China. The peak of Mount Kailash is at an elevation of 6,638Â m (21,778Â ft) and is (22,028Â ft) above sea level.
Mount Kailash is known as the Stairway to Heaven and is the most fascinating and scared mountain range in the Himalayas. It is believed that Mount Kailash being the centre of the world. The name Kailash is derived from the Sansrit word “kailasa” meaning “crystal”, the traditional Tibetan name for this mountain is “Gangs Rinpoche” meaning “precious snow mountain”.
Every year, thousands of pilgrims enter for pilgrimage to the holy Mount Kailash. Many people (including me) manage to finish circumambulating the mountain in 1 or 3 days respectively.
We had our travel documents and Tibet Travel Permit, the Military Permit, and Foreign Affairs Permit checked by the local authorities at the village of Darchen. Then we could start our trekking at around 9am and heading towards Dirapuk Monastery. It was a mild and moderate trek which took us 7 hours to complete the first 20km ascending 200m in the first day. We hired 3 porters to carry our backpacks and supplies for 3 days so that we could reserve our energy and focus on trekking. We saw so many Tibetans prostrating around the mountain along the way. It is believed that they could remove all their bad karma this life and previous lives after they completed their prostrations.
Next We started the most difficult and exhausting part of our 3 day trek at 6am and challenged the Drolma La Pass (@5630m) The drastic ascent of 550m and 600m descent was really hard and tough. The almost 90 degree inclined upward trek to the Pass were really difficult. It took us 10 hours to complete this 18km trek. We hung the prayer flags at the Pass and started our descent quickly because of the thin air and strong wind at the Pass. Lastly we commended our 3rd day trek (14 km) which was a mild and easy trek at 5am. However there were some narrow paths to be tackled. This only took us 6 hours and returned to Darchen at around noon. We stayed at a tin hunt campsite at the foot of the Mount Kailash the first night. Also we saw two beautiful lakes, Mansarovar and Rakshas Tal during our trek.
It is believed that Pilgrims who complete a trail (or kora) of 52 km around the mountain will attain a good luck blessing. The best time to trek Mount Kailash from May to half first of October with temperature staying at around 8 or 9 Celsius on average The inner kora which covers 30km is not available for international tourists. People had to pass very steep cliff and passes. Try to build up a good level of fitness For people who is affected by high altitude symptoms must be transferred to lower ground immediately. Stay for a 3 days acclimation in Lhasa...

For Jains, it is the site where Rishabhadeva, the first Tirthankara, achieved liberation, and Bon adherents view it as the seat of spiritual power.
Surrounded by the equally sacred lakes of Manasarovar and Rakshastal, the mountain is the centerpiece of the ancient practice of kora, a circumambulation pilgrimage spanning 52 kilometers. This journey, often completed under extreme weather conditions, is believed to cleanse sins and bring spiritual enlightenment. Climbers and tourists are drawn not only to its mystique but also to its untouched grandeur, as Mount Kailash remains unclimbed out of respect for its sanctity.
