Fabulous older city fashioned in wood, much of it on stilts along the Tuojiang River (wife translated this as Pheonix). The culture is quite unique. We were told going in to be careful in our interactions with locals, as tradition is unusual here. The sites are fantastic. It almost has a Las Vegas atmosphere in the evenings here; an Asian tourist mecca. Shops and street vendors all over. Audible hawkers and the sounds of food artisans pounding away at hammer candy fill the air. A quaint place to spend a few days...
