This is the most disgusting airport I've encountered in my entire life, ahead of Manilla airport. While superficially it may look nice, it's a place you should absolutely avoid.
Kunming airport has no luggage transit facilities; meaning if your layover is till the next day, you'll have to pick up your luggage and check it again like for a new flight Checking it again means going through Chinese security customs, which means more likely than not, they'll confiscate you some valuables from your checked luggage, included but not limited to batteries, power banks, lighters - oh they have an obsession about lighters. When transiting China you'll be devoid of all your lighters, no matter how precious/expensive they are, gifts from deceased spouse, working or not etc. they don't give a damn. Queues at passport/security can be extremely long while gates are far, meaning you can simply miss your flight even by leaving ample time, don't count on these people to help you Absolutely no one speaks English, be it main information desk, check-in staff and others; they're all busy constantly yelling and shouting around in Chinese, behaving downright vulgar, primitive and outright uneducated On the way there they broke my luggage; on the way out they left one luggage behind Locals are loudly spitting on the floor everywhere where you're not standing.
Avoid this place...
Read moreI went to this airport for a simple transfer. It was anything but simple. The very few staff there were incompetent and didn’t know which line or what papers the passengers had to fill out. After around 35/40 minutes of confusion for everyone, 1 member of staff appeared and he couldn’t have been more helpful. If not for this one man’s guidance, nothing would have been done. On top of that, the first part of the long journey included a screening asking why we were in the airport -_-, the machine to check our passports broke and it took 9 people staring at a machine for 30minutes for anything to get fixed. We had to go through multiple security checks and had to do 3 more while our plane was 20minutes away from boarding. In the end it was delayed and I honestly believe it was because half of the passengers were still stuck going through security checks. I believe this airport usually runs well, but this particular day was honestly ridiculous. And this is just a brief overview of the...
