一個頗有趣的機場，本為軍用機場，後對民航開放，現為軍、民兩用。 這個位處海拔高度二千九百四十九米而四周群山環繞的機場，只擁有一條跑道，連滑行道也欠奉，飛機降落後都會在跑道盡頭處以一百八十度迴轉掉頭；由於轉向幅度大而滑行距離短，此轉向會給在機上的乘客一個特別的體驗，機上乘客的感覺猶如是飛機是在轉盤上被轉動迴轉。 機場主體建築不大，約為百來公尺左近的長度，建築物的左方及右方分別為離境區及抵埗區，兩者皆在同一樓層。抵達林芝的乘客，由行李領取區至離開客運大樓，走不出多於兩百步距。離境安檢十分嚴格，甚至連鞋都要除下來過安檢機。 最後一提，雖說該機場為軍、民兩用，但區區由始至終都未曾見過一項與軍事有關的設施，這與如日本千歲機場可見到軍機庫...
