From afar, visitors will be awed by the sweeping roof of the museum jutting out like the bow of a giant ship. Once inside, the building exudes a feeling of spaciousness and light due to the glass facade. It is noteworthy that 2 galleries are devoted to historical records and objects, another to the discovery of Huaguangjiao 1 off the coast of Paracel Islands (Xisha). This wreckage is currently the oldest hull discovered by China in the open seas and is of significant importance. Not to be missed is the replica of the said Song dynasty merchant ship (F1). Exhibitions on other explorations and discoveries are equally fascinating. Lastly, the 7 voyages of Admiral Zhenghe deserved better representation.
