是泉州市唯一的5A風景區，但是沒有詳細的資訊和指示牌，初次到訪的遊客會有不少困擾。例如：游園車是從南門上山，你在游客中心搭，仍是繞行一圈。指示牌看不出是上坡還是下樓梯，建議戴護膝和登山杖，較不傷腳力。清源山有老子的道場，有老子像，還有孔子問老子等知名的場景。有弘一大師的修法寺廟和舍利子的所在處，有名人雅士留在石壁上的墨寶，有很多清淨修心的道場，有巨大的儲水湖，有修仙洞，綠植遍地，動物種類繁多，登高還可以俯瞰整個泉州市區，是市民在日常生活中全家大小最常去運動健行的地方。在早上七時前入景區是不用門票的，很多都會起個大早來爬山，最後在山中找一處休息區吃飯泡茶和聊天。山上吃飯的地方有非常多的商家，小店也不少，隨時都可以吃東西，不用怕挨餓。也有很多人是自行開車上山，這樣是比較方便的，因為景區很大，一天是走不完全部的景點。
