The toilets are smelly and dirty and the toilets are all squatting toilets so wheelchair users cannot use the toilet easily as there were no wheelchair accessible toilets. FuBao is adorable but the trees in her yard are covered so she can’t climb them. And other pandas yards trees aren’t covered so it is very unfair that other pandas can climb their trees and FuBao cannot. Also, the door to the pandas indoor room is open from their yard so if the panda doesn’t go out to the yard often, visitors have a smaller chance of seeing the panda. FuBao did not come out to her yard for very long. She came in the indoor room, then back out shortly, back inside, out again for all the time. There should be an organized time for the pandas to be in their yard and stay indoor. There are also so many stairs so if you are using a wheelchair, I wouldn’t recommend this panda base for you. And there are no restaurants in the panda base except for a place that sells instant noodles that are mostly spicy so if you hate spicy food, bring your own food from home if you’re...

Read moreIt's a panda zoo. A nice one with pretty surroundings but still a zoo. The thinking here goes that it's better to be protected in prison than endangered to die in the wild, consequently the chosen pandas are released into the wild for a few months to get pregnant and then recaptured to assure they deliver the babies in a "protected" environment. Older pandads, returned from being rented internationally can enjoy their retirement here, as well. Despite the obvious ethical question, it seems to work. There are more pandas born than dying and their overall numbers are growing. The zoo seems well kept. The volunteer day is subjectively not worth the money. You'll get to spend very little time with the pandas from behind the scenes so unless you want to pay to clean the cages (interesting) and prepare the panda cakes, skip the volunteers activity and enjoy the pandas just like other tourist do. Come early right at opening as this is when the pandas...
