Pier 3 appears to be where visiting cruise ships dock, amidst an operational loading dock. When we arrived we saw a container ship being loaded a pier over, but before we left, two other cruise ships had joined us. Upon arrival we looked down at an older style (Colonial?) customs house, saw armed forces at the dock (possibly to make us feel safe) and row upon row of tour buses all waiting to take us to the old city, the castle, of La Popa high on the hill above us. Read moreDocked at Cruise Port #3 in Cartegena, Columbia on Vision of the Seas. Excursion buses loaded and unloaded next to the gangway - very convenient! VoS had gangway transportation to the free port aviary and oasis shop, which was less than a mile walk from the ship. This is a free activity for anyone at the cruise port. There is a lot to see at the free aviary with plenty of seating in the shade. You need to walk through the aviary to catch a taxis or public transportation. While in the aviary, some guests got to hold a baby sloth, while others sat in the shade enjoying fresh Columbian coffee. I did get bitten by some insects, so insect repellent is...
