We took the Jetty Boat from Fisherman's Wharf to the Island. It's only $12 per person and unless you have your own boat or are a really good swimmer, it's the only way there... We have been here before and knew what we needed to bring to make the day a success, let me help you... either bring a wagon or rent a cart before getting on the boat. It's a long walk to get from the dock to the beach and it's just better if you have something with wheels to help you. Make sure you bring a cooler with cold drinks, and food. There is NOTHING on this island. You only have what you bring. Please let one of the things you bring be a trash bag. Use the trash bag to take all your trash back with you. You can even take some random trash back with you, the turtles and I would love that!! This is a place to relax, to fish, and to watch the turtles. The water is clear but not clear enough to snorkel, you can only see about 2 ft in the water.... there are some shells here on the beach if you come in the morning before the others get them, but there are not near as many as there used to be here. Bring shade. I am a sun loving beach girl... but even I need shade after being here a few hours, it gets hot on the jetty and on the beach. Enjoy yourself and your family and our beautiful world, this is a great place to reconnect and explore. You are allowed to go anywhere on the island though most people stop right at the beach, go out and look for hermit crabs and lizards, old...
Read moreWe took the Fisherman's Wharf to get to San Jose Island. It came out to about $50 for three of us to get a ride to the island. The ride on the boat is about 7 minutes and is pretty fun. The island itself is very desolate. Make sure and pack water and snacks because the minimum amount of time you will be there is 2 hours. The boat comes by every two hours and drop off and pick up but you would have to check their website to see what time the last boat comes. There are no restrooms, stores or seating of any kind. It's a beautiful spot for photos and relaxation without dozens of people around you. Nice place to get away for a bit. Some kind of shade...
Read moreIt's an ok place to visit. It really wasn't that impressive. The fun boat ride there is about 5min one way, $18 for the age 13 & older and $9 for children age 6~12 round trip. There is NO restrooms, and no trash cans there. The beach looked ok, not super dirty, but it's not "breathtakingly pretty" either. I was hoping to find some pretty sea shells, but I didn't find any, maybe because I got there around 1130, late in the morning. If you plan on visiting San Jose Island, pack everything you need, like beach umbrella, chairs, cooler with cold drinks, snacks,...
