☠️ I want to be very clear about this Volcano. It has killed, 9 scientists in one day in the 1990’s as I recall. It is dangerous and active, period. My wife is from Pasto, and we own a Villa roughly 25km away in Chachagui with a clear view. I see it all the time and know it well. There is an interesting visitor center at the base in Pasto, with a road that leads up mainly to the peak, where there is an abandoned (because highly dangerous place) military post and some communications towers (if flying killer boulders haven’t knocked them down by now). The road is closed/gated by the visitor center, the road is guarded and patrolled 24/7/365. You can take a back route up some nasty terrain and eventually pickup the road, but again, the road is periodically patrolled by the military. If you are caught best case they’ll drive you down, if they catch and know you went to top, you’ll be arrested for trespassing on National land, doc’s seized, maybe a night in Pasto cell, info entered into Colombian criminal database. If you are still nuts enough and want to avoid the road, expect 45 to 60degree inclines with occasional dead ends at cliffs. Also, the weather can change suddenly on the volcano, one hour sunny and 70F, the next 40F foggy and/or pouring rain. I would never want to spend the night, even only half way up. Beware, this is not for a Saturday afternoon pleasure hike. There are real risks, hidden cliffs and ravines out of no where, and real people have died at the top. DO NOT ATTEMPT TO SUMMIT. Creo que es un sitio turístico poco explotado, aunque se sabía que el acceso hasta el cráter es casi imposible porque está custodiado por el Instituto de Parques Naturales y no permiten el ascenso, hay información que indica que es posible subir hasta la estación de parques y desde allí apreciar el volcán desde la falda y a su vez ver la ciudad... Sin embargo, el barrio por el que se sale hacia la estación no se ve tan seguro y al dialogar con la policía indica que es mejor subir con acompañamiento policial desde que tengan disponibilidad obviamente...
