Volio Waterfall — Local services in Bratsi

ATTENTION SCAM!! The place where you can park your car there is a man with his family trying to scam you! They put up a sign that you have to pay 2000c for parking which is okay. This guy told us it would be a very difficult path to the waterfall and he just started walking with us. The "difficult path“ turned out to be just a normal street and 50 meters a small path which we easily could have found by our own. As we arrived at the waterfall and put on our bathing suits this guy started to secretly record us especially my girlfriend!! When I asked him about it he acted like he didn’t understand me! At this point we already felt very uncomfortable! After a little swim we went back to our car and then he told us that we had to pay 60$ for the tour he gave us and the parking! We never asked for a tour he just walked with us! To be clear the waterfall is beautiful but don’t trust this guy you can easily find it...

SCAM!!! We visited the waterfall yesterday too. A guy with his family met us at the parking spot. They said it is neccessary to go with a local to the waterfall because of "bandidos with a gun". The woman walked with us 20min to the waterfall, we took a picture and returned back to the car. We arrived after 40min our car again and the woman wanted 40.000Colones from us. We was super suprised and said we only have 6.000... They took the 6.000 and we left as fast as we can... Felt super unconfortable.

The waterfall is beautiful. But the business what the guy with his family makes is discusting. Dont visit this place by your own! The lady on the picture is responsible...

Une expérience magnifique, mais quelques précisions importantes

La cascade de Volio vaut vraiment le détour : le cadre est superbe, l’eau rafraîchissante, et le moment passé sur place reste un très beau souvenir. En revanche, je tiens à partager quelques conseils pratiques et mises en garde.

En lisant les avis après notre visite, j’ai découvert avec effroi que certaines personnes avaient été victimes de vols à main armée dans le secteur, parfois avec violence. Pour notre part, rien de tel ne s’est produit, mais il est important d’en être conscient.

Autre point : à l’arrivée, une famille avec enfants vous invite à vous garer pour 2 000 colones. Sachez que, comme dans de nombreux endroits autour de Puerto Viejo, Cahuita, Limon et autres, il n’y a aucune obligation de stationner là. Si vous avez un 4x4, un quad ou même une moto, vous pouvez traverser sans problème les deux bras de rivière menant à la cascade.

L’accès n’est pas indiqué, ce qui rend l’itinéraire un peu difficile à repérer :

Après la deuxième rivière, vous arriverez sur un plat.

Sur la droite, cherchez des escaliers en terre qui descendent.

Traversez un autre bras de rivière, puis continuez à gauche du gros rocher, en suivant le sentier dans la jungle.

Le chemin est escarpé, boueux et glissant : de bonnes chaussures de marche (type Salomon) sont vivement recommandées. Prévoyez maillot de bain et tenue légère, car la pluie est fréquente.

Vous n’avez pas besoin de guide ni de service local pour y accéder : votre sens de l’orientation, un peu de courage et de détermination suffisent. Et croyez-moi : le spectacle de la cascade en vaut...
