Costa Rica Pura Vida Rafting — Local services in La Virgen

Normally we do not do many reviews but this company definitely deserves a 5 star rating and much more visibility in our opinion! :) We had the most amazing and exciting day today on our white water rafting trip (class 3+4). Everything (booking of the trip, pick-up at our lodge and safety instructions, snack in the middle of the experience, photo taking, lunch) was very well organised and explained to us by the team of Junior, Luís and Arturo. Our boat guide Luís did an amazing job! We felt in good hands all the time and he gave very clear and easy to follow instructions during the boat tour (“Pura vida!”), it was so much fun paddling down the river with him! Arturo was our safety backup who was paddeling separately in a kayak in case you fall out of the boat, so we felt 100% safe the entire time and could enjoy the adventurous ride. :) Even better, Arturo also took pictures of us during the entire trip and we received more than 60 photos. It is very nice that the photos are already included in the price so we have beautiful memories from today’s trip :)

Snacks (fruits, cookies, chips) were lovely prepared during a short break where we could relax and have a fun chat with the tour guides.

Second best part after the boat ride was the lunch - typical Costa Rican food, very tasty and we received a coconut popsicle as a surprise on top!

Our experience with Costa Rica Pura Vida Rafting in La Virgen was nothing short of exceptional. From start to finish, the team demonstrated professionalism, expertise, and a genuine passion for ensuring every guest has a memorable adventure.

The friendly instructors, fluent in English, provided a thorough safety briefing and preparation session, which gave us complete confidence before hitting the river. The equipment was of excellent quality, and the well-planned route made the most of the Sarapiquí River’s exciting Grade III-IV rapids.

The mid-rafting snack was a thoughtful touch, and the generous lunch upon our return was a perfect end to the day. The transport was comfortable, and the service felt truly personalised throughout.

Special thanks to Felipe, whose intimate knowledge of the river and calm presence behind us allowed us to focus on refining our technique while feeling entirely safe. He even took the time to point out fascinating wildlife along the way, adding another layer of enjoyment to the trip.

We had an amazing experience with the team. I have been doing rafting before, but I have never felt this pampered in a rafting experience. For starters, the whole tour was organised just for me and my friend, so it felt really like a VIP experience. Although there were just the two of us, the logistics was impressive: we had safety kayak riding along us, to ensure we get collected in case we fell and to take us nice pictures when acting adventurous, we had a proper snack prepared in the middle of the touring time, where the driver brought fruits and snacks and we got to use an actual table and chairs when we were off of the boat; during the drive, we receive more than ample explanations on all the trees and wildlife that we came across; at the end of river experience we received clean towels (which is at least for me, a first, as you are generally instructed to bring your own); and it all ended with a good lunch consisting of typical Costa Rican food at the base.
