Birding Spots Manuel Antonio — Local services in Naranjito

If you want THE BEST guide for Manuel Antonio national park and especially birding in the Quepos area (possibly all of Costa Rica), Oscar is your man. I will assume that the majority of guides are nice and adequate but Oscar has a degree in this, has worked with people at the Cornell Ornithology lab, and just has a passion for this. His knowledge base is ridiculous. Doesn’t need some guide book because he has contributed to those books. He can hear bird calls and know what they are. He can even whistle mimic some of them. But the creme de le creme is his vision. He can spot animals from afar in the maze of the rainforest canopy that look like just blobs. The first time he did it, I thought BS. But then he put it on his spotter lens and bam, there it was! Crazy good eyes. Just book a tour with Oscar. You won’t regret it. Plus at the end, he will airdrop all the fantastic pictures he took during the tour. How good is he? The resort recommended him for the National parks tour. He was so good, we booked (and luckily landed) his birding tour the next day. Oh and if you’re wondering, I’m no shill. I was just some really fortunate and very satisfied tourist...

This is the 3rd year that we have gone birding with Oscar Herrera and Birding Spots Manuel Antonio. In addition to birding, Oscar has guided us on kayaks through the Damas Mangroves and taken us on a fabulous night tour. Oscar is an extraordinary guide. He is educated and extremely knowledgeable regarding the local flora and fauna and will take you to the best spots to target the local specialities. He knows all the birds by sound and can imitate most of them. He is a great communicator who is friendly and very passionate about birds and nature. He cares deeply for Costa Rica and the natural environment. In addition, Oscar is a fantastic photographer and understands how to help you get the very best shots. He will also document birds using phone pics taken through his awesome scope. He keeps track of all the sightings so you don't have to, and will send you the lists or share the ebird checklist with you after your day ends. Getting a Tour Guide is essential to getting the most out of the Manuel Antonio experience.

Luis Andreas was the absolute best. I was nothing short of amazed at the amount of wildlife he was able to spot and show us.

Had we gone without a guide, we’d just be walking aimlessly. Granted - the park is gorgeous in its own right. But if you want to spot wildlife? Tour guides are incredible.

Their tripod binocular set up will let your phone camera capture incredible photos you’d never be able to get otherwise.
