Great hike and very different to the reserves. Wide way up without any cars. Unpaved dusty road. Very very steep so be in good shape - we live in the alps and know what steep means. Took us around 90 mins to the top. Steepness was rather a problem downwards. I would not recommend driving. This should even be very difficult with 4x4. Also do not go in the rain. The way must be super slippery. A great way to experience the cloud forest as it all becomes more humid the...

The hike up is nothing special but the view is nice and most importantly the hike back down through the cloudforest (use maps.me, its easy to get lost and google maps doesnt have the trail) was amazing, better than the cloud forest reserve. We had to do it barefoot because it is muddy but it was really fun. You come out on a private property but they just told us to leave and...

Many people complain there is nothing you can do in Monteverde without paying. Well here is your free hike on public road that you won't forget. Don't expect a view on top. It is in clouds most of the time in the year as we are supposed to have in the Cloud Forest. It is a hike only for...

Very steep hike, took me and my friends exactly an hour. It's just a dirt road for cars, you're not actually walking in the jungle. The view on top is okay, but mostly obscured by the clouds. Personally I think the hike was not worth the view. Free of charge.

This is the only hiking train in Santa Elena that is free of charge. You have to walk on degraded road which is very steep. On the top there are al lot of antennas. At the time we were there it was quite windy with a lot of clouds. Only accessible by a 4x4.
