First of all, the experience, an amazing trek through beautiful nature with breathtaking and unique views. The animals being monkeys, toucans, iguanas and much more. Marvin is a big horse-lover like myself and has only a couple tourism horses. His babies as he calls them are some of the best WESTERN trained horses ive ridden and are not like the normal dull sad droopy husks of tourism horses. They have character and are amusing too ride. But can adapt too any rider beginner-expert. Marvin is a fine gentleman who cares a lot about his animals and doesnt just let anyone ride them without seeing how you treat them, at first you ride in a large pasture for a quick basic crash course on riding and him demonstrating his trust towards his animals. The strong and healthy animals are so tame that you can walk behind them, he demonstrated this by putting his entire body between their hind legs. The horses where all super healthy, well fed and had very good muscle and he ordered people by experience, size and weight for the safety of you and the horse. We took the short trek of 2.5 hours, it was an experience of a lifetime. Not only seeing the nature, but guided by him and his dogs riding through his different pastures with horses, mules and cows. At the quarter break we even got too try to milk a cow because he needed to do it. He then took us down too a river always correcting our riding if necessary, making it safer for us and the horses. Saying basics like if you ride uphill lean forward if you ride downhill lean back. May not seem like a lot but helps the horses so much. Marvin is an absolute joy to be around and made this experience so unique. I will be coming back for the whole day tour. If you are a beginner who doesn't know a lot about horses, but wants well trained safe horse adventures and with healthy horses. Horsetrekk monteverde is the best option for this I saw after researching a lot. Muchisimas gracias Marvin y yo voy la proxima vez por...

Wow! We have done a bunch of riding tours in other places so I was expecting more of the same, but just for longer. We signed up for the whole day and I am so grateful! We learned a ton from Marvin about horses and it is so clear he loves them. They are so cared for and responsive, the easiest horse I have ever ridden—speaking as someone who only does 1-2 hour trail rides with a lifetime total of 10 rides and doesn’t consider themself a rider. Our kids have probably done 5 lifetime rides and they did great. I enjoyed the western style of riding (felt easier on my knees) and the horses didn’t have to wear bits. Marvin had lots of gentle and useful reminders for riding, and his English is much better than he gives himself credit for. The scenery was phenomenal and easier to absorb than on a zip line. The lunch was delicious and filling, nicely accounting for our pescatarian diets. We had time for the kids to scramble around and in a stream and the number of butterflies we saw verged on ridiculous. We were on the horses for almost 5 hours and we will be sore tomorrow for sure but everyone agrees it was worth it, even the kids. Advice? He will provide ponchos if you don’t have any (rain jackets are insufficient for keeping the saddles dry) and you don’t need to bring water because he will pack it. Bring stuff you can wear into the stream, or at least enough to stick your legs in. I probably should have worn jeans but I wanted to pack light, oops. I don’t wear contacts often but did for this trip and I am glad because some parts were very bumpy and my glasses would have fallen off. Definitely a highlight of our trip and we won’t ever...

Horse Trek Monteverde was AMAZING! I had my 8 year old with me so I was really nervous about him riding on his own horse up & down hills & valleys- something he’d never done!

Marvin was hands down one of the best teachers I’ve ever experienced! He showed & told Nikko exactly how to sit & relax & stay flexible & mellow, how to cue the horse with his reins & “smoochsmooch” sounds AND how to look MAHVELOUS & Like a REAL cowboy! (He needs to do a Costa Rican cowboy comedy show 🤪😎😝)

Both Nikko & I were totally put at ease.

We rode 2.5 hours in all through the most magical lush green scenery weaving up & down hills with Marvin stopping to point out wildlife & vegetation... (& teach me Costa Rican songs 😎😎😎)

Not only was Marvin a top notch teacher, the horses were so very safe & responsive & weren’t at all skiddish when we did pass through the brief busier areas on our way to & from the rest of the stunning rural terrain ...

It was just the most PERFECT day & Journey!

Thank you SO MUCH Janet for putting this together & to Marvin for being so wonderful!

Nikko is already asking for a “pet horse”

HA! THANKS...

My girlfriend and I had a great time riding horses and learning from Marvin! Was my first time ever on a horse and Marvin is excellent at teaching and making sure you are confident, he will correct you and make sure you can actually control the horse and are comfortable on it. Even got to watch him at work directing cows, all in all an amazing experience and highly recommend Marvin!

We are a family of 4 with 2 kids (youngest is 6) and we've never done horseback riding. The kids were excited by I was a bit concerned because the terrain is hilly and I wouldn't be able to keep the kids safe. The minute we arrived, we were greeted an introduced to the horses. We were given a safety lesson and a demonstration prior to mounting the animals. By the time we got onto the horses, we felt comfortable with the "controls". My son (11) got ahold of the process almost immediately. The younger one (6) was on her own horse, and could control him, but the guide kept a rope to make sure it was extra safe. The horses were very intelligent and well behaved. Even in the seemingly challenging terrain they handled the situation great. All and all, we felt very safe and had a ton of fun. This was a highlight of our trip to Monte Verde. I highly recommend this to anyone looking for an amazing experience. Quick Tip: You'll have more fun if you trust the process, trust the horses, trust the team and "go with the flow".
