Topana — Local services in Grad Imotski

Imotski fortress Topana is a prominent building found between Blue lake and famous Imotski football stadium. It is first mentioned in the writings of Constantine Vll Porphyrogenitus in the mid-10th century and was later used as a defense outpost against the Ottoman.

There are a few parking lots in the vicinity, one next to the football stadium and one lower down the street. You have a nice viewpoint at the top overlooking the valley and Biokovo mountain range in the distance. There is also a nice view of the Blue lake on the right side of the fortress. There was no entry fee at the time of our visit (friday 10:00 in the morning).

There is a nice little 18th century church called The Church of our Lady of Angels at the entrance to the fortress and a few metres further you have a nice view of Gospin Dolac stadium. I highly recommend visiting this...

Topana is worth visiting because of its natural position and the nice view on the Blue lake, but from the fortress is very little left. They poured concrete to stabilize the remaining walls and ruins and thats it. You will see mostly the foundations of buildings one well from Venetian time (half of the inscription is missing. Fortezza Topana (Imotski)

La Fortezza Topana è situata lungo le pendici del Lago Blu e domina la città. Venne costruita nel X secolo e nel corso della storia ha avuto una grande importanza strategica. Il patrono di Imotski è la Madonna degli Angeli e l'omonima chiesa si trova nelle vicinanze della fortezza, che fu dominata dai Turchi per oltre 200 anni. Oggi è un luogo molto amato, per il bellissimo panorama e in estate ci si organizzano vari eventi culturali. Simpatica e molto interessante da visitare da cui si vede tutto il panorama della zona circostante. Si trova vicino a due bei laghetti (Lago Blu e Lago Rosso per le sue pareti tutte di questo colore) Zona molto bella da vistare e per passeggiare, al lago Blu si può scendere ma è tassativamente vietato fare il bagno.

The Topana Fortress is located along the slopes of the Blue Lake and dominates the city. It was built in the 10th century and has had great strategic importance throughout history. The patron saint of Imotski is the Madonna of the Angels and the church of the same name is located near the fortress, which was dominated by the Turks for over 200 years.
