There are several marked mountain trails with which you can reach this highest peak of mountain Mosor (1339 m) in 2-5 hours. The most demanding is if you follow main part of the mountain ridge starting from Klis but that one is only for fit mountaineers. Much easier and shorter (10 km) is the one we did starting from Sitno Gornje and going first to Veliki Kabal and then following ridge going to Vickov stup and returning to Sitno Gornje via mountain house where you can find some food if you do not come to late as we did. But there are many other mountain trails you can go and it is amazing experience I would recommend to any lover of mountains. It is interesting that I was many time on the nearby Vickov stup peak and this was first time I climbed Veliki Kabal but I will be returning for sure and using different marked mountain trails. Another excellent mountain trail is from Donji Dolac from north going first with old stone road until you reach abandoned village with stone housde remnants and then when you climb through oak forest there is one harder part through rocks where you will be using hands also and finally nice one until you reach Veliki Kabal peak, it is demanding one but very beatiful and I would...

And the in the most important crossroad, there was no sign which way is the mountain or which way is harder/longer. Long story short, we took the harder path and found ourselves climbing on all fours like mountain goats through sharp rocks. Near the top we were greeted by unexpected rain and fog. On top (pun intended) of that, the trail just before the peak had a huge gap that we were supposed to jump through and very steep walls just ahead of that. We gave up and came back - too risky during the rain. All in all it was a was a rather pleasant hike and the views were nice. Just take the...
Read moreWe hiked from Sitno Gornje to Veliki Kabal and back on the same route.
If you plan on taking this trip, please make sure to wear good hiking shoes and bring plenty of water. We drank around four liters per person.
Also, don't trust the temperature forecasts you find on the internet. At the peak, it's going to be 2-3°C higher than in Split.
Most of the trail is rocky and in full sun. It's not very challenging.
If you go from Sitno, you'll have a beautiful view most of the time. The peak is awesome. It's worth...
