Velika Kapela is a large mountain range in western Croatia. It stretches in northwest - southeast direction through Gorski kotar and Lika regions. It is a part of Dinarides - Dinaric Alps. Northern borders are The Risnjak-Snježnik massif and Ravna Gora plateau. It continues to Mala Kapela in the south with Modruš, Kapela mountain pass and Josipdol valley as natural borders. Vratnik mountain pass separates it from northern slopes of Velebit. While known as the narrowest territory between coastal and continental Croatia, it is thinly populated and rich with wild, preserved nature.
