Iera Moni Osiou Avvakoum — Local services in Fterikoudi

Visiting the monstery on a weekend is a true blessing. However I suspect that on weekdays the experience is far more personal, esoteric and spiritual. Nature seems to participate in the divine setting, creating the perfect scenery for such a holy sanctuary. Morning dew dripping on the plants like a pearl necklace, the calling of a distant cock, the smell of the freshly brewed tea (not the kind you get from a tea bag but from freshly picked mountain herbs), and the arbitrary greeting of a smiling old village lady riding with no saddle on her donkey. I even spotted two grouse in the pink meadow below! The priest and the monk are super polite and cordial. They even allowed the worshipers to ring the bell after mass! Donations are graciously accepted, so feel free to support the monastery. It has also come to my understanding that certain miracles are being performed for the faithful in need. I prayed for my sciatica pain and after casually mentioning it to the priest he assured me that he can be of some assistance on my next visit. Altogether it was a great experience and I will definitely go back for more. I only wish the road was a bit wider so that my car wheel hadn't hit the curb. Now I am in desperate need of a new rim, alas these things...

This monastery dedicated to Osios AvvaCum was uplifting in every way. Excellent location. The monks were the most interesting part of the whole experience. From salad tossing to rigging miracle icons, they definitely got me pegged, as a believer in the magic of donating money for a great cause. I hope to see more monasteries...

Όταν επισκέπτεται κάποιος μια ιερά Μονή, επιζητά την ηρεμία, τον αυτοστοχασμό, αλλά πάντα επίσης να νιώσει τη δύναμη του Θεού. Προσωπικά στο συγκεκριμένο μοναστήρι πιστεύω βιώνει κάνεις ακριβώς αυτό. Η αίσθηση του θείου, το άνοιγμα της ψυχής προς τον Άγιο και ταυτόχρονα στο Θεό είναι κάτι που συγκλονίζει. Άκουσα πολλές μαρτυρίες για πόσους βοήθησε και θεράπευσε ο Άγιος Αβακουμ και ο Άγιος Πορφύριος και μακάρι να συνεχίσουν να το κάνουν για όσους έχουν πραγματική ανάγκη. Οι πατέρες εκεί ήταν φιλόξενοι, ευγενικοί, με τα αστεία και τα σοβαρά στις κουβέντες τους και σε έκαναν να νιώθεις πολύ όμορφα!!

Ένα μήνα αργότερα σήμερα δλδ που προσθέτω στην αξιολόγηση μου, δυστυχώς η αδυναμία του ανθρώπου για άλλη μια φορά σκιάσε το όμορφο αυτό μέρος. Ελπίζω να τελειώσει σύντομα η όλη αυτή τραγωδία και να συνεχίσει η Μόνη το έργο της με πραγματικούς ανθρώπους του Θεού και όχι...
