This company gave me exactly what I wanted. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! . Helen was very helpful and accommodating. She arranged a private 5-hour excursion for our group of five. All of us enjoyed the experience immensely. They only have buggies (i.e. no ATVs), which are well maintained because part of the tour is on a major artery. We drove on secondary roads through the countryside and several small towns which represent the REAL Dominican Republic. For me, it was great fun to observe how these towns are abuzz with activity. Stops included a plantation where we learned about cocoa and coffee, sampling both; a small grocer where we sampled a home-made orange drink and home-made cheese; a coconut stand where each of us got one to drink / eat. Then, on to La Vacama beach, northwards for about 15km with two beach stops (swimming optional). The final stretch was water and mud, which delighted us all. Rolf, our guide, took about 150 photos along the way and sent them to us promptly. This special customized tour was a highlight of our vacation. . I did a lot of research before I found this company. Almost all of the competitors will herd you into a large group and shuttle you on a route just to the west and south of Bavaro. This route includes an old quarry, a section of beach, a plantation where they have a large presentation hall full of tourist trappings and, even worse (for me), an amusement park called Domitai that features fake indigenous dancing and a cenote (i.e. semi-cavern with crystal clear waters) that you can swim in. The whole place is swarming with tourists and hawkers trying to sell their wares. The best way to see for yourself is to use Google Maps and search for buggy or boogie or ATV or Domitai; look at the photos and read the reviews. Only you can decide which experience appeals. They are very different. . BTW: our group of 5 comprised four under 30 and me, in my late 60s. I was a bit apprehensive about participating but Helen assured me that all would be well as long as I was not disabled in any way; she was absolutely right. It’s important to read the posted instructions carefully. They tell you exactly what to bring and what to wear. Drivers MUST be proficient at manual transmission and must bring their license. Payment is...
Read moreIf you're headed to Punta Cana and looking for an adventure that will have you grinning ear to ear and covered in mud, look no further than Xtreme-Buggy. My wife and I did the half-day excursion with some friends we vacationed with - and Charlie was our guide.. It was an exhilarating ride through paradise, and trust me, it’s worth every penny.
Charlie picked us up from the resort on time and some other guests from neighboring resorts. Believe me, the adventure begins there. Charlie had us in stitches all the way there and we could tell the whole experience would be wild.
We started our journey with a thorough safety and operational briefing. His instructions were clear and he really covered the buggy operation, firmly, yet still hilarious. It's like trying not to laugh in church - particularly when another buggy driver didn't get in the right way.
We stopped at a remote homestead and our host gave us local coffee and sweets. Both were amazing. Charlie walked us through life in this remote area and explained more about the culture.
We drove through towns, stopping at one for another snack, and then headed to the beach to rinse off a little. The ride was exhilarating and stunning. Charlie was tossing little candies to the local children the entire ride. I think he might be a local legend.
If you find yourself in Punta Cana, definitely contact Xtreme Buggy. Charlie and his wife are the heart and soul of this experience. This was hands-down the best experience we have ever had on any...
Read moreXtreme Buggy was the most amazing experience from start to finish. Angela picked us up from our resort & gave us history of Punta Cana & DR, she was so nice & really started off our experience great! Mark was our tour leader & he was also amazing, he has a ton of knowledge and truly loves what he does, we only had one other couple with us, so it was a perfect small group. You start the tour by driving a few miles in terrain & get a couple mud puddles also, then you stop at a locals home for a cup of coffee and take a tour of everyday life, then you continue driving and stop every now and then for a history lesson on the schooling and cultural lessons of DR. We continued driving and stopped at a local store that sells drinks, vegetables, food, we enjoyed a nice cheese, crackers, and ham, then we drove to the beautiful beach of Macao where we took photos and swam a little. & then we headed back to the buggy shop. It was the most amazing experience, something we really needed while visiting DR, we got to see reality and culture, it is truly a very organized tour. A few tips: YOU MUST KNOW HOW TO DRIVE STICK SHIFT, bring sunscreen, & BOOK THIS TOUR, you won’t regret it! P.S. your tour guide will take pictures throughout the tour, for ONLY an extra $20 you get some amazing pictures, none that you would be able to capture fast enough with a cell phone!
